Hello everyone, I'm so happy for all of you who made it for the Spring class, I'm new and I'm planning to apply for the Fall 2011, does anyone know when the registrations start? also I'm scheduled for the PAX exam on Jan 15, any advise?:uhoh21:

I'm not sure when the deadline is for fall but it's got to be coming up soon. Give the campus of your choice a call, you'll need the application packet anyway. If your applying to any campus but calu it's an easy process, if you're doing calu make sure you start a few months in advance. And for the pax i highly recommend the nln pax review book. It went over a lot of stuff I completely forgot and I just graduated in 05. Passed with a composite score of 89% and thats only because the science drug it down.

Thanks, I'm planning to apply to Allegheny campus, I read all the postings about the waitting time:no: harsh!!

I already got the LNL book for my PAX exam, but I don't if that will be enough.

Hi Rovila76! I just took the PAX a couple weeks ago and it had been 8 years since I did any math work. Luckily I had AP1 and 2 under my belt so that helped a lot in Science. Overall I felt the review book was an excellent representation of the exam! I borrowed it from a friend who gave me good advice - do every practice test and keep doing them until you know all the answers. I had forgotten almost all of my basic algebra, but math ended up being my favorite section. Start studying now and keep it going until the 15th. Good luck!! I didn't think it was any harder than the book so practice and you'll do great!

Oh, and I'm also a Fall '11 hopeful. Maybe we'll run into each other!

Rovila, I did a little bit of reviewing the study books for the PAX from the Carnegie library, and I got a 156 composite, 99Reading, 99Math, 98Science, 99th percentile composite. I noticed when I took it that some of the questions were exact duplicates from questions asked in the practice tests. I figured that those questions were not actually counted toward your scores, as they ask more questions than they ultimately use toward your percentiles. The science is over a wide range of material-- chemistry, biology, ap, physics. A few questions on circuitry, ph, cell structure, units of energy like watts, amps, joules, etc. So you might want to review that stuff. In reading and math, it is important to pace yourself and to use process of elimination.

Also, don't forget there are programs at UPMC Mercy, Shadyside and St. Margaret's, too. They require the PSB Test, which I thought is similar to the PAX. I scored high 90s, mostly 99s, on all the sections on that one too, but it is broken down differently-- Academic Aptitude, Math, Reading, Spelling, Natural Science, Vocabulary. For St Margaret you only need a 65th percentile on each section, and for Shadyside you need an 80 average.

For CCAC, at minimum you need a 50-- that's it! Just make sure you really keep an eye out for the application deadline, as it sometimes is not really announced; you have to kind of be watching for it. For us, they sent the applications I think only a month or so before they were actually due on Aug 31st. I would call them periodically and ask them when they are coming out.

Applications for Fall 2011 are due on March 15th, 2011 I heard. I have a few friends that are applying to South campus for Fall 2011.

Good luck on the PAX. I cannot offer any advice since I took the NET. I know South campus offers review sessions for the PAX. They offer them one on one or in groups for free. I have seen several signs throughout the campus but didn't pay that much attention since it did not apply to me.

Thanks for all the help, I guess I have to keep practicing the tests, and if the dead line for Fall is March 15th, it will give me pleanty of time for the PAX exam results to come back, Laramyy did you took the exam on the computer version? did it give you the results the same day? I'm just really nervous about the exam:uhoh3: going nuts!!!

Yup, great news is the computer exam gives you results before you leave :) make sure you keep a copy to turn in with your application. Good luck guys ^_^

kh321 Thanks for the info on the application deadline. I have been out of town and am going to call when I get back to PGH.

Meowmixer is correct. I took the computer version and got the results instantly. It's definitely an advantage! Also, you can go at your own pace and don't have to wait for everyone to finish in order to move on because you have your own timer on all the sections. I forgot to say that you should also make sure to read all the review sections and if you don't understand anything try and look it up. Good luck! It may be a beginning step in the nursing process, but it gives a nice feeling of accomplishment when finished :)
