U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Just wondering if anyone else on here has applied to CCAC for the spring 2011 semester?

Cal u cpr class is this saturday from 8:30 to 12:30

For those responding to the forum that are already students, how are the classes set up? At a previous school we only signed up for one 8-9 credit class but we covered something different every 8 weeks. Like the 2nd semester we did 8 weeks of ob and 8 weeks of peds. Is ccac like that or do we just cover one subject a semester?

Btw woot! Paperwork finally completed and turned in...now for the hard part.

NRN 101 is all fundamentals. NRN 102 there is 3 weeks of OB and 3 weeks of peds; the rest is med-surg. For 202 there is med-surg and 3 weeks of mental health. 204 is 10 weeks and covers critical care I believe.

I'm entering my final semester at Boyce.

Has anYone gotten their books yet? Both the bookstore and calu don't know what all

Is in the bundle you have to spend $700 on and I already have a ton of nursing books from last year. Don't want to buy them all if I only need a few. Thanks!

I have not bought a book the entire time.... I know Boyce and South have lots of power points... If I was to purchase a book, it would be an older version... I would wait until after the program begins... In some classes, you will need the online info from the book if the teacher has you work on online material... If this is the case, you can purchase the code from the book company... My advice is to wait and see and buy used versions for super cheap like $6-----

I know a lot of people who bought ALL the books and never open them up.

I agree with *LIG, I fell for the 101 trap and bought the massive collection. I never used all the books even though they swore we would use them all. I am entering my last semester and agree 100% to wait. The books you can count on using... the fundamentals, the med-surg, the skills/assessment books, drug calc. Of course they can be an edition old or more, nothing much changes from book to book. The drug guides, encyclopedia, lab tests/diagnostics you will find that you will use google before cracking open the book. Mental health, peds, and maternity are 3-4 weeks long, don't buy a new book for a 3-4 week course, rent them or buy used or an older edition.

they toss in NCLEX books and other ancillary books to make it look good, but I can honestly say in 3 semesters I have yet to see an exam question from any of those "suggested" books.

On-line access... hit and miss, on-line access was nice, but not required, you can pass the class without the online access. I know people that did study groups and shared the on-line access. As mentioned you can buy the access for a fraction of cost of the book, and I would not buy it until I knew it was mandatory for an assignment and not to "enhance" your learning experience.

Thanks for the reply guys :) I assume i should be fine with the books i have then, again, as you said unless theres an assignment from one of them...I managed to pull up some type of book list off ccac's site from the course search and it looks like i have the same med surg book, which is nice because it was almost $200 itself, and the $30 concept map/care plan book (ill take what i can get). What fundamentals book do you use? I have potter and perry right now. If it's different I can at least look it up online and see if it's similar. Figure I should at least have the fundamentals book the first semester. Thanks again!

We used Taylors nursing fundamentals book

We used Kozier and Erb's Fundamentals book.
