Just wondering if anyone else on here has applied to CCAC for the spring 2011 semester?
I believe that Monica is the one in charge of all campuses so my guess is she will be the one to get back to you. Good luck- I hope that it all works out for you guys!!
for those that are deciding between pitt and ccac- what campuses were you accepted to at ccac? and is there a reason why you are up in the air? (like have you heard bad stuff about ccac or pit etc?)
Wow Roseanne, you're really awesome. :) Thanks kaykay and pookalook and everyone else for the encouragement.
Kmoty, I think the nursing admission coordinator's name is Amber Reed; that is who I spoke with on the phone.
If anyone else browsing this board is not in at CCAC for whatever reason, you should know that Shadyside and St Margs still have openings. Shadyside starts a class in March and Margs starts in Feb and June. I guess I'm going to hold my nose and put those apps together too. I already took the PSB exam and passed all the sections with high 90s. Just know you need 65 and over on all the sections for Margs and I think 80 and up for Shadyside. I was always planning on going to UPMC anyway but later decided to just stay with CCAC out of convenience. God I thought this was supposed to be over but it's like a never-ending saga.
It's exciting for you guys who are officially in. Enjoy the process and congrats... just think in only a couple more months you're going to be doing your first clinicals!
kg0730 - I haven't applied to the Pitt program yet, my application will be complete by the end of December once I take the GRE. I also still have to take Genetics and repeat some Chemistry courses (since I took them 10 years ago). My undergraduate and prerequisite grades are competitive so I am confident that I *should* get into Pitt. I think in my particular case since I haven't applied to Pitt yet, I want to give that application a chance and have CCAC as a back up for Fall 2011. (assuming they would let me defer my spot - and if they don't, I should be accepted into Fall 2011 if I am forced to reapply since I got accepted for Spring right?)
I believe in a previous post you said they already accepted you? What is the deadline for you to respond back to Pitt? I think your decision should be based on your own situation financially. Are you able to not work while going through the 3 semesters at Pitt? How soon do you want to have your BSN? If you went to Pitt, you would have your BSN over and done with at the end of Summer 2012. What else are you confused about?
I can't think of anything else to look at but will post more if I think of any. :)
Honestly if I could go elsewhere I would.... especially if it meant a better degree. I need to get done with school asap and get a job because I am married with 3 kids. that is why I am sticking with ccac and not looking elsewhere. but if ccac fell thru I was going to washington hospital. I plan on furthering my degree eventually but right now, I need the fastest route for my family. everyone has sacrificed for me to go to school to begin with.
Jason and others still looking- La Roche also offers an associates degree and accepts CCAC credits as well. Applications are due May 1st for them. And they do not have a waiting list.
You have to be kidding-- they put her clear out at CalU? I would be ticked. In fact, I would probably look into an attorney because that is THEIR fault, not hers. Why should a student be penalized because of their mistake? For that matter, they can just "mistakenly" disqualify anyone's application if they want. Makes me wonder, honestly.
She kind of made it sound on the phone like they were going to try to put me into "a program." In my case, I'm not going anywhere but Allegheny because it is the one I applied to.
I called again this morning and spoke with Janice. She was really nice and said I was correct about the error they made, so she asked me if I had a preference for Allegheny day or night. The dean is in a meeting, but they are going to get back with me :) Yaya, cause guess how much Shadyside is costing next year's starting class? 32,000! And they are rolling back the tuition forgiveness...it's going to be based on fafsa scores, etc. I told her that is too expensive, never mind.

I emailed monica and she said she will look into it and get back to me. I also talked to shannon at Cal and she said she would email the nursing admission coordinator to see what she would suggest I do. I called the number the north nursing office voicemail says to call if you have received a rejection letter and have concern about it, and have not been called back. Still hoping to hear from the dean of nursing.. And I'm planning to call again first thing tomorrow
