CCAC Spring 2011

Published

Just wondering if anyone else on here has applied to CCAC for the spring 2011 semester?

I received my lovely rejection letter today stating that I was denied bc I didn't pass the PAX I applied with my NET scores which met the requirement. I contacted the nursing secretary at CalU and she said to appeal the decision, not really sure how I do this. Any suggestions on how to do this would be greatly appreciated.

Congratulations to those who did get in!

Kmoty: I'm sorry to hear of your problem :( Wow, they really dropped the ball to say the least. While others are ecstatic and moving on with the plans to complete the immunizations, cpr training, etc, we are sitting around wonder what the hell is going on...

And appeal? What does that mean? Sounds like some drawn-out process. Let's hope not! Hopefully when I call in the am she will just look up my stats and quickly ameliorate the situation. Call Monika Kennison in the am...4123694109, I think. She is the dean of nursing at North campus, where they porifice the applications. She and about two others have a voice mail from me already and I'll be calling them first thing tomorrow.

Sad thing is I have a 4.0, 99th percentile pax scores (composite 156) and should have been a shoe-in. Instead, it's as if it made no difference at all. I sooooo do not feel like doing an essay and having to mess with recommendations for Shadyside or St. Margs.

Congratulations again to everyone who has gotten their acceptance letter! When are you guys registering? I see the spots for NRN101 are still not being filled on CCAC central e-services.

:)

I feel so sorry for you guys that are having issues. when I tried to appeal a decision before I was told to email Monica Kennison which I believe was [email protected] obviously I didnt get anywhere with my appeal, but it was a completely different situation. She was very fast with getting back to me- about 1-2 days if that. She was pretty nice. I know that she is the Dean of Nursing. Good Luck you guys.

Jason... the reason the slots for classes are not filling up yet is because we had to make an appointment to meet with someone to register. I believe the dates are 12-15 and 12-20 for Allegheny. I am not sure about the other campuses. But obviously you guys have some time to appeal before we even have to register. I am sure that you guys will get in once they see their mistakes.

Congrats to those that got their letters today!

Boyce group registration is November 22. Sessions will be determined via a "lottery" system.

kmoty01 and Jasoninpa - good luck with your appeals!

Was curious if folks from the North/South campuses heard anything? Hadn't seen any postings from that group.

Is Boyce the only campus to do the lottery system? Did your letter state that is how they do it? I am curious because I havent heard anything about it. Maybe it is because Boyces classes are both later in the day/evenings? :o

also, I went on to ccac central and saw that only Boyce and Allegheny have spring sessions for NRN 101... does that seem right? i thought all the campuses had spring terms. maybe not....

For your appeal, call Dr Kennison asap...4123694109

Thanks again everyone! I just sent her an email too haha.

What does "sessions will be determined by a lottery" mean? Does that mean the order you get to see the advisor to become registered is by lottery? Or does it just mean that what class times you are registered under is by lottery? Am I making sense? lol

I'm worried that I'm going to get registered to see the advisor late after the first session and so the spot I want will be filled up. Yeah, I'm kind of operating under the assumption that my appeal is going to be approved...not to be arrogant, but I'm confident in my case. I think they read my placement test score wrong...my score looks low but it is based on only 45 points max because it was the higher-level math placement test. It was not the intermediate algebra one which is out of 100. I think they saw my score and thought I scored too low on the math to place even at 100-level math. I had this problem for a moment when I saw my advisor for scheduling one time too...and then they realized I took the other placement test.

Anyway, Roseanne and Kaykay, you two seem to be on the ball! Good luck!!!

Kaykay,

Sorry to post again already, but I was looking at your message. I too thought that there was a spring program at all the campuses, but apparantly not. They have a fall program at all of them, but it appears from all I could see that they only start spring classes at Boyce, Allegheny and CalU.. I found this info by going to ccac.edu, doing a search with terms "nursing application" and then clicking second one down "nursing application process..." it's a pdf.

Good luck! :)

kaykay07  you're right! I forgot Spring was only for Alleghany and Boyce :)

Yes the Boyce letter states: " Attendance to this session is Mandatory. There will be no other registration session. At this session, you will receive your Spring 2011 Registration Form for your Nursing classes - lecture, labs, and clinicals - along with other important information. Registration will be done using a "lottery" system...Since there are only a limited number of seats for each option, you should select several options that may be conductive with your other obligations.....etc etc"

And if one doesn't show up on that November 22 date, the spot may be taken from someone on the waiting list unless the Boyce campus is contacted ahead of time. Even if excused and you can't make it on November 22, looks like your name will be placed on the bottom of the list to take whatever session is left.

oh I get the lottery thing now. The Allegheny letter said nothing about it. ours give you 2 dates and you have to call and make an appointment for one to do your registration. When I called for my appoinment I think she said they were every half hour. The whole lottery thing kind sucks though since it is basically the luck of the draw. what if you need a certain time/day? Well hopefully you get the times that you need! Good luck!

Jason- I went into where we register to see what campuses had spring semester. I did not see calu on there but maybe there scheduling is different? anyways thanks for clearing it up!

Kaykay,

I see CalU listed in the paper spring 11 credit schedule catalog.

Jason-I read my last post to you and it should've read "doesn't need developmental math"-HA! Well, I think you should be feeling confident b/c your scores rock. If they dont take you, its a loss on their part.

I did read in a letter I got yesterday that clinicals start the LAST 5 weeks of the FINAL semester which suprised me. That seems like very little. If you were to go to Shadyside or St. Margaret, you'd get a TON more clinical time which makes you a better nurse. I know you dont feel like it, but rethink doing those essays while you go through the red tape at CCAC.

did anyone ever think of washington hospital also? i dont think they have an essay- it is all first come first serve, they accept ccac credits. that was my backup if i didnt get into ccac. it is actually a nice school and i have alot of friends who went there and got hired by the hospital. downside is ou only get a diploma.
