CCAC Spring 2011

Published

Just wondering if anyone else on here has applied to CCAC for the spring 2011 semester?

Specializes in Pediatrics.

I'm in nursing at CCAC right now. You start clinicals the very first week. The last 5 weeks you are one on one with a nurse doing your mentorship. I believe your schedule goes along with what that nurses schedule is at that time so I think it is mentioned in the letter that they cannot guarantee you a specific schedule due to your own job or whatever.

Kelly321- thank you for that information! I reread the letter and they only talked about the 1 x 1 clinical and assumed that was all we got. Whew! Thanks again!

I got in to boyce evening/weekend. I am was so excited and I think I still am, but I thought it was day web enhanced program. I am so confused. When I applied I read http://www.ccac.edu/default.aspx?id=143292 which I thought meant that you have the option of day or evening classes. Can you switch once you've been accepted? Please help. I will call the nursing department if necessary but they were so gruff when I called about the admission letters i am hoping I can atleast be armed with some info when I call.

RoseanneMartin- No problem!! If we only had 5 weeks of clinical that would be so scary!! You do get more clinical time in hospital schools but I am happy with CCAC.

Jubileejoy--if you don't mind me asking, how are you making your decision between CCAC and Pitt's accelerated program? I'm in the same situation and I'm SO confused about what to do!

Hi all,

In case anyone's wondering out of curiosity about my ongoing saga, I called and talked to Amber this morning, and she said it does appear to be a mistake-- that I should have been given credit for the placement test, etc. Unfortunately, the dean is out of the office today, however. She did send an email response telling me that she will look into it.

Amber seems nice and helpful. I've been told she is looking into what they can do, etc.

Kmoty, did you call this am?

Jasoninpa, I was in a similar situation. I scored in the 99th percentile on science, received A's in chemistry I & II at Pitt, and got A's in high school biology and chemistry in high school. They still wanted me to take BIO 110 to get through the red tape. BIO 110 is basically a prerequisite to NRN 101. I am taking BIO 110 right now, and I have received permission based on my background to wave the requirement temporarily for me.

My suggestion is for you to suggest a similar compromise with CCAC. They probably still want you to take the class. With your background you should easily get an A when you do. It also looks like the MAT course is only a co-requisite to NRN 101 so the timing shouldn't be a problem.

Good luck.

Did anyone else on here get into Allegheny evenings? It seems that our (or at least my) acceptance letter in very vague. There is no specific timeline, phone numbers, or information about what I need to do besides a "background check, drug screening, and physical."

Reading other posts I noticed a lot of specific tests, Titers for example, training (CPR), and dates for registration. I feel a little left in the dark.

Does anyone know who is a good person to talk to for me to find out more information?

If you have a fax #, I can fax you my packet. Im in Allegheny Day. Same goes for you Jason.

Krogs, thanks for that info. Actually, the problem with me is not that I have not satisfied the prereqs (I have!), but that whoever reviewed my application apparantly had a brain fart. And that's putting it politely. The reason why BIO 110 is a prereq is because it is required as a prereq for the API, which is one of the corequisite courses required for completion of the Associates degree. If you place, as I did, up to Math 180 or whatever it is, you do not have to take Math 090 because you already fulfillment the prereq by placement for the Math 100 that is required to complete the degree. See what I'm saying? The lady I spoke to today even acknowledged to me that they did not give me credit for my placement test. The reason why there are the prereqs is because they are the classes required for the classes that you must take to complete the ASN: English 101, API, etc.

The fault really is theirs-- and I'm waiting on the resolution. Amber was nice and seems to be really helping.

Jason I really hope this gets resolved quickly for you1 Best of luck!

Krgoks, the first thing you should do is call Joan and register for registration. That is when you will be given times and dates for your classes. As for everything else, the best advice I can give you is do one thing at a time. Apply for your criminal background first, it can be done online in two minutes. Send out for your child clearances, make an appointment for fingerprints. As for the medical, I am going to the health department for my titers and what not, and a regular doctor for my physical. Drug testing is usually a walk in service, just bring your paper that is in your packet with your id, and they make sure it goes where it needs to go. Hope that helps.
