Can this be put on the homepage or SOMETHING?!

Nurses General Nursing

Published

icuRNmaggie has been reposting and reposting the link to the petition to have mandated nurse to patient ratios, but there are STILL only about 20,000 out of the 80,000 signatures needed by October 17.

We all argue a whole lot, but I think this might be one thing just about all of us can agree on.

I'm sure most of the moderators and other people involved with AN support the cause as individuals, but can AN as a company help support us on this?

It just seems like having a link on the front page would generate so much more traffic. And what about all those article links that pop up on Facebook? Can the petition be linked in one of those?

Having the support of a giant internet presence like this one could make all the difference, and I hate to say it, but I don't think we can do it on our own. We need help!

Yeah...people looooove posting long whiny rants about a random, insensitive comment made by some idiot but it doesn't seem like too many people are invested enough to just sign a petition.

I added it to my Facebook and signed it too

I didn't know anything about it. Signed!!

I think the reason the petition is not going anywhere. . .look who is president?! Think he cares? Think he wants to pay attention to the petition or play golf? Pay attention to the petition or send text messages with some beautiful Hollywood actress. Seriously.

Know what I think? I think many regulations should be eliminated so a group of nurses can gather up money and support much more easily to open up their own hospital and pay nurses what they think nurses deserve and charge patients what they think they should be charged. As it stands now, big business LOVES regulations. Because it destroys most any competition from even materializing with all the regulations in place.

Yeah, except TWICE the amount of people have signed a petition to cancel The View as the petition for staffing ratios. Just sickening.

How come more nurses responded to the "View" than a very important petition that will keep our patients SAFE! Please encourage every RN to sign this petition on We the People,https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/provide-federal-legislation-nurse-patient-ratios. This is how we can unite every RN across the country!

Exactly. I stated precisely this on SMYS. Twice the amount of signatures to cancel a show than to petition for a step to safer care that affects us all, nurses and patients. I've been sharing and spreading the word left and right with very very little response.

Perhaps there is very little response because many of us realize that this is not how legislation is made. What exactly to you think is going to come from us signing a online petition?

You said it was "sickening" that more people signed "The View" petition then this one. You what is more sickening? It's that there are already bills sitting around in congress that address this issue and no one here seems to realize that!

If you want something to happen, you should be getting people to contact their congressional representative and getting them to do something. Not wasting time with this White House PR vehicle.

No need to be condescending. Petitions are one way to let lawmakers know how important an issue is to their constituents. If you get enough signatures and send it to your reps, change can happen. Especially if the people who manage the political funding get involved.

Signed!!! Thanks for posting! I didn't know about it.

But,via this particular petition, you are not petitioning a lawmaker. You are not petitioning your representative, who depends on your vote to keep their job. You are not petitioning the very people who have the power to act on a bill they already have that has been gathering dust for two years!
