Awesome MrsBond! I'm getting all my paperwork and such together as well. Looking forward to orientation, however not the fact that it's all the way across town for me during rush hour haha!

So, my GCU account appears to have been updated with my class schedule for Boswell starting January. I haven't received an official email about it, but it looks like my cohort's schedule is as follows:

Mon/Wed: NSG 301 (Nursing Foundations) 9-11, and NSG 303 (Therapeutic Communication & Informatics) 1-3.

Tues: NSG 307 (Pharmacology) 9-12 and NSG 305 (Health Assessment) 1-4

Thurs: NSG 307 9-12

Friday: No Class

MsBond, there should be a lab day in there somewhere. It should be on Thursday maybe 1-3 since u have pharm @ 9. You don't see it? Also if you'd like, ur welcome to come look at the campus if u haven't already. They offered us to come & see before school started this fall. It's very nice you'll love it I'm sure!

Hi Toy -

I checked my calendar again and there are no other classes posted on it, so maybe they are still trying to figure out lab schedules? I am sure I will find out soon!

I may drive out to the campus one of these mornings just to see what traffic is like and how early I need to leave (not a huge drive since I am coming from N. Phoenix and going against rush hour). I can tell from the pics, though, that it is gorgeous. And I have been to Boswell before and kinda grew up on the "west side", so I know it is a nice area.

I know, it will be rush hour traffic for me too! Probably end up getting there early and finishing up coffee in my car or something lol.

Ha, so I checked my schedule again today and it has changed! While I am now going to just wait to get an official email from GCU with my schedule (since they seem to be still tinkering with it), my new schedule *appears* to be:

Tues 8-12, 1-4

Wed 8-12, 1-5

Thurs 1-4

Fri 10-12

Very interesting. In any event, when I have official confirmation of my Boswell schedule, I'll make sure to post it.

As far as total hours spent in the classroom per week, this is pretty close to ours.

We have 14.5 lecture hours

Then 3 hours of lab for the first 6 weeks ish, & after adding the 2nd lab day at that point we then have 6 hours total of lab per week for remainder of the semester.

Hey Toy,

Any insight as to the workload for Level 1? I can't recall if you or someone else was the one who had told me that exams are only given for pharm & assessment courses and not the other two? Is this correct? Also how about writing papers? I know this is an Accelerated BSN and my friends who have taken GCU RN-BSN bridge have had to write a good number of papers but curious as to how much of that is for block one. I ask for both curiosity but also as an idea of what kind of time I'll need outside of class as I'm also going to be fitting full time work in for the first semester at least.

Thanks for all your help so far! I know I'm not alone in being grateful to have someone a step ahead of us giving thoughts and info to help us out :)

Workload? Papers? Where do I begin??? Lol so far I've written at least 3 750-1000 word papers in APA & a 500 word. You're correct about us not having exams in those two classes. We do however have presentations. In Foundations there are journal entries due every Sunday & in communications there is a discussion question (DQ) due every Wednesday night at 2359. (Get used to that military time if u aren't already) those weekly writings have to be a maximum of 250 words. U have to properly cite in APA also. I used to hate writing but I've gotten so used to it by now. We did have more writing assignments but they were a little different. For example. We had to do a patient medication teaching in Pharm, a recording of a conversation in pharmacology, & an assessment of a patient utilizing different questionnaires in HA. You guys will love it. I'm loving every bit of it. Take it all in please & don't rush it. This semester had gone by so fast. It was bittersweet. I'm excited for level 2 but I'm hoping it goes a little slower. Lol I've made the best of friends. I feel like we're all a big family. Everyone is so willing to help bc we don't want anyone to get left behind. We're all in this together!

MsBond, sounds like your lab may be longer than ours which is something we all had hoped for for the new level 1. Lots of time is needed to learn all we need to. Also, do you know where we're located? It's across the street from Boswell. Hope to see u there!

Awesome thanks! & yea I expected a lot of homework/papers outside of just studying haha. I'm generally pretty good at it but not a huge fan lol. Thankfully I'm used to military time thanks to charting at the hospital now :)

Correction, the recording was for Communications. Ur very welcome! I know you're excited! It'll be here before u know it. Maybe u should go buy the latest edition of the nclex book & the pharm phlash flash cards! Those help tremendously!

Thank you, Toy! That was so informative and gives me a better idea of what to prepare for. It seems like a lot of work, but it all expected! All in all, do you find that it isn't an insane amount? Like do you still have a social life at all? What about a part time job? Just curious. But I do expect to not have much of a life outside of nursing school for the next 16 months anyways :-)

Don't plan on a life. Lol Jk you'll know what u can & can't do. I have 3 kids so there's only so much I can do. My friend has 2 kids & she had to skip out on camping but was able to throw her daughter an extravagant bday party. Camping fell during a week with 3 writing assignments & the party was bw tests. But u do want to be careful. If u have something to coming up in ur planner stick to the assignment before going out. You'll be fine trust me!
