OK I work ICU in a community owned not for profit hospital. 5 things that are most important to me: pt to nurse ratio, pay, flexibility with scheduling, look and feel of unit(does it have new equipment, good atmosphere, ect) and teamwork among co-workers.I have only been here for a month so far, have been a nurse for 4 years, I am happy enough here, I have no plans on going anywhere for at least a year because the job is well-paying, very flexible as I am per diem and even though I work fulltime hours, its nice to be able to take a week or so off without drama if I need to, and because the staff here is very helpful and considerate and the unit is brandnew and very aesthetically pleasing compared to some places I have worked. I hope this helps, I am starting NP school this summer and I have to take research so I will certainly be having to some manner of these surveys myself.

Hey,

this is my very first post, just joined though I have visited the site frequently in the last few months

I have been a nurse for 8 years

I work in a large teaching hospital

The things that make me stay are the great benefits, the tuition reimbursement, the vacation time. the challenge of working with complex patients, the great nursing support...or is it the great union?

i have been with this employer for one year and I hope to stay for a long time!!!.

yes

benefits

Specializes in Emergency Dept.

I was a tech for 5 years, RN with BSN since May 07

Work on a tele floor that holds 36 pts, we average 5-6 per night shift.

(240 bed hospital, level 2 trauma center)

Most to Least Important: Work Environment (i.e. staff-pt ratios, feeling about to appropriately care for patients), Pay, Feeling the management appreciates us, Benefits, Hours (where else can you work full time and still have an 8 day stretch off every three weeks?)

Have worked all (almost) 6 years at the same hospital.

Yes, I'm pretty happy here.

1. The money is good, the hospital treats there staff very well (there are always going to be those few managers, etc, but in general, this hospial treats us great), No mandatory OT, but can pick it up pretty much when I want, my manager is very nice and quick to respond to questions, etc.

I have been in nursing for 7 years.

I work at a level1 trauma/teaching facility, they own 3 other hospitals and multiple ambulatory care clinics some do outpt surgery and have ER's.

Nurse to pt ratio, non toxic working environment, management who will back up nursing staff to insane famlies, competitive pay and benefits.

I started at one of the smaller hospitals they own 3 years ago, and then in 10/06 I moved to the one I am currently at. So 3 1/2 years for the system and 1 1/2 years at the current larger hospital.

For the most part Yes I am happy, but we are going through a rough patch on our unit now with a new manager starting. We are still working through issues and I know things will get better with time.

The thing that makes me stay are my co workers. We support one another. We work together. We have some awesome CNA's and RN's on nights. Teamwork is big on our unit. I love the challange of the neuro ICU. Flexible schedules. I can also say no mandatory OT, but can pick up all the OT that I want.
