Soooo... I applied for my CA license by endorsement (from Illinois). Had my transcripts sent on 9/14, online application sent in with payment on 9/18 and mailed in my fingerprint card the next day. At that time, the processing times website was quoting a 10-12 week turnaround. I checked periodically on my status and it had always said "pending"... until today. I have a license number and expiration date. I'm assuming that means I'm official. So, just over 4 weeks and I have a license. Am I missing something?? This seems too good to be true!

I turned in everything a month ago including sending in the fingerprinting card. When I check the status of my application online it says they are missing my fingerprint card

I am applying for my CA RN License by endorsement from Indiana. I graduate in December, am applying for Indiana license by exam and testing here, and then applying for endorsement as soon as I have an Indiana license. I know LiveScan is faster, does anyone know if I can complete Livescan before submitting my application? I would have time to fly out and do that in CA before graduation, but I didn't know if they expired or if the board of nursing would not accept them if they have been done a month or two prior to applying. Ive of course tried to contact the BON with no luck, so any help would be appreciated!

Thank you!

Is there a reason you're applying in Indiana first? If you know you're going to CA, it would be faster to just apply there first.

I thought of that, but I don't want to have to wait several months to take my NCLEX. Im thinking if I apply in IN first, I will be able to test within a few weeks and then my husband and I are going traveling for a few months while waiting for my license without having to worry. Which is why Im trying to having everything together so I won't have any issues to deal with while i'm out of the country.

That kind of makes sense, if IN is quick at getting you your ATT. If that's the case, I vote for taking NCLEX as soon as you can before you start forgetting stuff. However, I don't think you can apply in CA until after you have your IN license, so depending in the timing of your trip you might still have to work on your CA while you're out of the country.

Just thought I’d share my successful licensing journey with the CA BRN to help other nurses out there in the same situation. A little background about me, I am foreign born and did my nursing education in Canada. I hold Canadian citizenship, licensed in a Canadian province and initially licensed via Minnesota back in 2016 via the NCLEX. I currently hold a license in Texas and have let my MN license expire. I did my CGFNS visa screen early last year (required for the TN visa) which by the way took way longer than CA BRN. It took almost 6 months to receive my VS certificate so get started on it ASAP. My CA licensing journey began with landing a job in CA and used the job offer letter to obtain a visa and SSN. Side note: I have a former classmate from nursing school working as a RN in CA and gave me advice re: CA BRN educational requirements. It turns out our nursing education was missing the microbiology course requirement so I took a microbio class through a local university and completed it in early Dec 2018. I made sure it included a lab component. Make sure your nursing education meet the CA requirements to avoid delays.

Timeline:

Nov 1 - called my Nursing school and requested my school to fill out the breakdown of courses and prepare transcripts. I knew from applying for the visa screen last year that my school takes about a month for them to get all documents filled out and signed. The school mailed out my transcripts on Nov 25 without my knowledge.

Nov 30 - Luckily, I received my SSN in the mail and I immediately applied to California BRN via Breeze website. Canada Post was on strike around that time so I know my Uni transcripts wouldn’t reach CA BRN before my application.

Dec 7 - I wrote my microbiology final exam and had my transcript sent to CA BRN a week later via courier. I also requested my provincial licensing body to send my license verification via courier. I have read from previous post that mail gets lost occasionally so I didn’t want to take chances.

Dec 17 - Flew to California to meet my employer and at the same time I got my live scan done there. The live scan personnel required a US address for some reason but luckily my friend gave me his address.

Dec 19 - The Breeze website allows you to attach documents to your open application for any other required documents. Back in October, I called the CA BRN for tips and advice and the representative said to attach all documents that proves your identity and your credentials. ie passport, SSN, etc. The following documents that I attached were: SSN card, old and current passports from time in university to present, CGFNS certificate, RN degree, live scan copy/receipt, Texas and Minnesota license, and provincial RN license. I highly recommend attaching these docs to avoid delays. It doesn’t say in the application instructions but have read from previous posts multiple times that they’ve asked for these documents.

Jan 2 - CA BRN processing time website states my application date is current.

Jan 10 - Did not contact CA BRN at all anytime after submitting my application back in Nov 30. I checked breeze that evening and found my license number at the top right hand corner. I am an international applicant and was able to get my license just a day short of 6 weeks!

Hope this helps someone. Thanks to everyone who posted their tips and experience as it certainly helped me. Best of luck to y’all!

I sent in my application in September 2017. I got a letter 01/2/2017 saying they needed my transcript for my diploma from my International nursing school. They also noted that they needed breakdown hours/credits for oral communication. I did my BSN in USA, they got transcript from the college already. I have Texas License. They said if I don't send the requirements in one year, my application will be cancelled, and I have to reapply.

How's your application with them?

We have all heard how lengthy the California licensing by endorsement can be. I haven't found any new updated threads on this. What's your experience been in the California license by endorsement process?… I'm from NY and sent in my license for endorsement a month ago, which was the middle of December 2015. I think I'm looking at another 3 months from now. I didn't apply for the temporary license. They haven't cashed my check yet.

What's your status and how's the process going for you?

Thanks.

Hello I know this thread is old but for anybody reading I have a June-July 2019 update.

Time line

June 15: registered for Breeze account, sent Nursys verification.

June 20: sent for transcripts from schools (I took psych 101, and Eng 101 from college in Arizona in 94' and the nursing school in Nevada recently), was able to rush order nursing school transcripts to board.

June 21: Did live scan in California, uploaded 2x2 pics, and paid for license (didn't apply for a temp license). So official submission was June 21.

Kept looking at Breeze to see if anything else was needed or if I needed to resend anything. Looked on July 12 and my permanent license was up and running. I was surprised, as the processing date was not stating processing dates between June16-30. I do have an old LVN license in California but it has been delinquent since 2016. Don't know if that had anything to do with the speed of my endorsement of my NV RN into California but I will say I was happy with the speed considering what I have heard. Good Luck to all endorsing into California!
