Cal State San Marcos ABSN Spring 2017

Published

Hi, everyone!

Hoping to get a conversation going with other students who are applying to the Spring 2017 San Marcos cohort at Cal State; I'm from out of state and hoping to get some more information on how applications are going for all of you! I'm taking the TEAS soon and finishing up pre-reqs this upcoming quarter, my application will be in by Late July with updated transcripts sent in mid- August! Hopefully that won't hurt my chances of getting in to this cohort, any thoughts? Thanks!!

Hi everyone! I am a little confused about the chemistry requirement for this absn. Would some of you mind telling me what chemistry course(s) you took at your institutions that qualified for San Marcos' absn requirement? I took an intro chemistry at my community college and although it is an intro, it is not an intro to general chemistry, as it covers organic, inorganic, and basic biochemistry (it is a nursing track chemistry for ADN programs around here). I still don't know if it satisfies their requirements, and I am anxiously waiting for my evaluations.

Have you tried using assist.org? It should tell you if your class will transfer :) some intro programs transfer if they cover more material, like the one you're taking. I cleared the requirement with an o chem class, my intro to chem class did not transfer.

Hello, thank you for the reply! Unfortunately, csusm does not have an assist agreements setup with the community college I attended, which is why I am left in the dark. If my Chem class is not accepted, it's not the end of the world, I'll just compete for the summer cohort after taking general chemistry or o chem

Hello. I too have been accepted to the Spring Cohort 2017. Has anyone met yet?

Which course did you guys use to cover the "Critical Thinking" requirement? None of my classes explicitly state that it is a critical thinking course...

I had the same issue at te beginning of applying but was able to get the counselor to work with me... We ended up switching some of my classes around that covered more than one requirement to get it to work. Apparently I had one class that was an "Honors Writing Course" which satisfied both the writing and critical thinking. I ended up using my general "English Comp" class to cover the critical thinking course and the honors to cover the writing requirement. It's not very intuitive but I'm sure if you speak to someone they can help you figure something out that can work

@ imtootired Hello, at my school I had two options (that I am aware of):

1)English 1600: Critical Thinking, Literature, and Composition

2)Philosophy 1520: Critical thinking

I took these both at a community college, hope this helps!

Hey everyone! So happy I found this forum. I was accepted for Spring 2017 and I live in Sacramento, CA so I've been trying to figure out as many details as possible but can't seem to get any answers from the school. Just wondering if anyone has received orientation dates or instructions for registration yet? Also, I'm in desperate need of a roommate or room to rent! : )) can't wait to get started!!

Hello - I've called the school

multiple times and have also not received any details. They stated financial aid will not be reviewed until the end of December. They will likely not have orientation until January and we won't know our schedules until January as well.

If if you're interested - we are renting a private room/bathroom and living room in our home in murrieta,CA. It is about a 45min drive from the campus.

How do we submit the TEAS for the ABSN application? Just through the ATI website?

I just submitted a copy of the PDF report with my test results with my mailed in application.

As this is the most recently active thread for CSUSM's ABSN program, I'm hoping someone here may be able to help me with a pre-nursing core question. Did anybody use argumentation/debate communications course to satisfy the oral communication requirement? I called the program today, but they said they wouldn't know if it would count until they evaluated my transcripts (applying for Fall 2017). Thanks!
