  1. I appreciate the thought, but unfortunately I've already moved two states away and am committed to the point of no return. I'm really just looking for help in finding a loan that will fit my needs at this point. I have calculated that repayment will be possible for me upon completion of my program, so I just need help in getting there. Does anyone have advice about specific loan options available to me?
  2. Hey everyone, I need some advice. I am enrolled in a second-degree ABSN program that starts next week, and I thought that getting a private loan would be a bit easier than it is proving to be. My parents already cosigned on my first degree's private loan so they can't cosign again, and I need another loan to bridge the gap between what my financial aid has offered (they awarded me a $4000 subsidized federal loan) and the cost of attendance for my progam. I have exhausted all my other options including applying for scholarships, accepting my entire FA award, and working during school, so now I unfortunately have to fall back on a private loan. I need a $7,500 loan for the summer session (includes housing for a full year) but I can't find a bank that will give me a loan with my credit score (662 because of previous loans.) Does anyone have any advice or know of a bank that is willing to give a loan to a nursing student in need?
  3. Hi there! If anyone is here for the Summer Cohort in Temecula for 2017, there is a new allnurses thread that Raynaleigh started located here: https://allnurses.com/online-nursing-schools/cal-state-san-1084051.html Also, there is a Facebook group for accepted nursing students for the summer 2017 cohort that is linked on that thread for anyone who is interested on getting more info!
  4. Hi kenab! I am an out of state student (washington state) who just got accepted for the summer cohort at CSUSM. I took my statistics class at my private university here in Washington and they accepted it without any problems, so I don't think they care where you took it as long as the requirement is fulfilled. Good luck!! :)
  5. https://www.facebook. com/groups/CSUSMcohort28/?ref=aymt_homepage_panel Here's the link again, just take out the space between . and com and you should be able to access it.
  6. I've posted a few comments with a direct link to the page but this site told me those comments needed to be approved by the moderators before they would show up, so hopefully tomorrow it will have a direct link. On Facebook the name of the group is CSU ABSN COHORT 28 and right now it is a public group so that you can hopefully find it just by searching for it. If those two options don't work I can add you directly to the group through your email!
  7. Hi everyone! I'm not sure if my last post went up, but here is the link to the facebook group: Log into Facebook | Facebook If you send me your emails I can add you directly if the link doesn't allow you to! :)
  8. I've started the process of creating our Facebook group, if you post your email here I can add you directly! :) I originally hoped to get into the previous cohort in San Marcos and joined their facebook group not knowing that I'd be deferred, but it worked out because now I have insider info to offer to our FB group haha. My name is kendle and my email is [email protected] for anyone who would like to reach out! :)
  9. Hi everyone!! Congratulations on getting in!! I got my acceptance yesterday as well, and I am so excited to meet all of you and get started! We did it!! I submitted my deposit immediately after I got that email haha. (After selecting 'accept' I also chose the 'extended learning summer' option to pay the deposit.) I wasn't expecting to hear back from CSU this early! If no one else has done it yet, I would love to start a Facebook group for our summer cohort so we can start the process of meeting and give each other updates in a more organized place. I'll link it here. Congratulations again to everyone, I am so excited! :) Good luck to everyone who is waiting to hear back!!
  10. Hi Raynaleigh! The same thing happened to me; I was right in the middle of finishing my pre-reqs (like a week away from finishing) when the apps were due, and my school took too long to send out final grades. The acceptances for everyone were sent out right as San Marcos was receiving my final grades. I spoke with my advisor after I found out I was waitlisted she did say that acceptance is slightly less competitive for Temecula than San Marcos, so that is a piece of good news. She said that since there are 2 cohorts at Temecula and they're further away, there is a little less pressure to get in than at the San Marcos cohort. Also, apparently the parking permit at San Marcos is ridiculously expensive per semester compared to Temecula, so we will save money in that regard! Hi Jay6doll! I know, it is so frustrating that they don't send rejection notices. I felt like I was waiting at the edge of my seat most of the time and hounding my advisor more than I would've if they had just been more open about communicating. I was frustrated checking the student portal too, waiting for something to change and then not knowing what it meant when nothing changed. It's so frustrating! I hope that it will work out for us! I think that you have like a week (that's a guess) to 'accept' your spot and send in the $150 deposit on your student portal. They send the instructions for all of that, but the $150 down is due right away at the time you accept. I'm not sure if they would be willing to hold the spot, but if you're willing to put $150 down and potentially lose it if a better offer comes up, it might be worth the investment! Luckily, once you've applied, if you choose to not go to CSU or if you don't get accepted on your first try, your application is good for a full year from the date you apply. You don't have to change your application or pay another $50 or anything, it just rolls over to the next term for consideration. It's nice not having to do anything more to be considered, but it also makes me question how many people are actually on their waitlist, because they aren't necessarily forthcoming with that information. We'll see!! February is almost here!
  11. Hi everyone! I originally applied for the Spring 2017 cohort but was waitlisted along with several other people due to the timing of my application. I was finishing up my last quarter of pre-requisites when the applications were due, and unfortunately my final transcript got to CSUSM a few days after the priority deadline, so although I ended up being evaluated at 32 points (and others were accepted at 30 points), I got waitlisted for the Spring term. I was pretty disappointed because San Marcos would have been a much more convenient campus as I plan on living further south, but I'm bound and determined to get in for the summer term despite that fact! I've had a lot of correspondence back and forth with CSUSM (for the past 6 months, in fact) and I'm happy to answer any questions you might have about the process (at least based on what I've experienced so far.) In October 2016 (just after I'd found out about getting waitlisted for the Spring term) I asked my advisor what the next steps would be and what the process would be like for getting into the Summer term. She originally told me that for the upcoming Summer term, the first acceptances would go out in January (which clearly didn't happen...) but when I emailed my advisor again a week or two ago, she informed me that the first round of acceptances would go out in February. Based on my experience from the Spring term, I can say with confidence that if you got your transcripts and application completed by the priority deadline and you have a decent point spread, you have a fighting chance of getting in. If you got your application in after the priority deadline, you are going to be pushed further down the priority list because there are already around 10 people on the waitlist from the Spring term whose completed apps were already submitted for review for Summer admission. I'd like to add, because this was not something I was told by anyone (and it led to a lot of stress on my part): CSUSM does NOT send you any type of notification if you do not get into the program. There is no rejection email or letter. They will only notify you if you get into the program, OR if you email them to ask what your status is. I waited for quite a long time to get notified about what was going on before I cracked and emailed my advisor asking for an update. Hopefully that makes sense! I'm happy to elaborate on any details you'd like more info on. I am pulling for everyone on this thread and really hoping that we all get in! I feel cautiously optimistic at this point; it's pretty much a plan for the worst but hope for the best kind of feeling. I'm going to send my apps out elsewhere just in case, but I really truly hope we all get in! Good luck to you all! May the odds be ever in your favor!
  12. Congrats to everyone who has been accepted, I'm so excited for all of you!! I'm hoping I will hear back soon so that I can maybe celebrate as well! I submitted my application on July 16th, so I'm hoping that calstate will send me a point spread (or maybe even a conditional acceptance?) soon! I am getting very anxious since it's been about 3 weeks, and I know this is a ridiculous question but I can't help myself haha. What time of day did you guys get a reply? Did they send an email or was there just a change in your mycsusm page? Also, I can't find the FB page for our cohort for some reason, maybe once I hear back someone can add me to the group as well? Thanks everyone! :)
  13. Thats exactly what I'm doing! I'm starting my final quarter of prerequisites on July 5th, but the quarter isn't over till late August, so ill have to send them an additional transcript past the date of the deadline. Hopefully that won't negatively affect the application. I'm studying for my TEAS test right now because I'm taking that in the next few days before my quarter begins! Keep us posted with how everything is going for you! Good luck! :)
  14. That's great, thank you so much for sharing, Mrssotoa! I'm trying to get into the San Marcos campus as well, because I'll be living south of there and I don't want to have to commute to Temecula either. How long after you submitted your application did they respond to you? Was it through email? Also, what was the initial evaluation of your application like? I'm trying to figure out the deadline for acceptance and what the next steps are after that, if there is something I have to fly in for (like the background check or submitting anything) or what exactly happens.
  15. Hi, everyone! Hoping to get a conversation going with other students who are applying to the Spring 2017 San Marcos cohort at Cal State; I'm from out of state and hoping to get some more information on how applications are going for all of you! I'm taking the TEAS soon and finishing up pre-reqs this upcoming quarter, my application will be in by Late July with updated transcripts sent in mid- August! Hopefully that won't hurt my chances of getting in to this cohort, any thoughts? Thanks!!
