Bsn at western governors

Published

Hello all. Enrolled in wgu for may 1, 2015.still not sure about it. The comments about the rn to bsn vary. I have 10 classes to take and want to complete the program in 12 months

putting in 10 to 15 hours a week. Is this reasonable? Would love to talk to someone by phone with anyone who completed the program. Any comments are appreciated. I read in some reviews that there were a lot of very lengthy papers and others said a few short papers. Some students commented that the courses were very difficult and were impossible to study for and others said the opposite. So.... What's the story with this school because I'm enrolled in 2 schools and have not decided which one to go to. Thank you all for your comments .

Thanks!! You're the best!!

I also had 34 CU's to complete and it took me 11 months and 2 weeks and that was with a lot of procrastination on my part. I could of been done a lot sooner if I wanted. That's what I loved about WGU if I had a busy week or just didn't want to do schoolwork I could do that, it's flexible. It's hard to say what class is easier or harder because it's different for everyone. Some people think biochemistry is really hard. For me it wasn't, I thought it was fun. There wasn't really a class that I thought was overly hard just some were more time consuming and tedious. Good luck!

I am also starting WGU May 1st. I have already gotten a lot of got information from the postings here. Commuter did you use the College network guides for most or all of your classes. Your input would be appreciated.

No, I just used the College Network guide to pass the Professional Roles & Values course. I used a Passbook to pass the Community Health course.

I started the first of February also. I agree with the post above. I love the school. You have to be self motivation for sure. I had moved and wasn't able to be as focused as I planed but the next week I made up for it. I hope to finish in 12 months.

Commuter,

Thank you for the information, I am trying to be prepared before I start school so I can move through as quickly as possible.

Thanks for the reply. What study guides did you use and how many hours did you study weekly? It seems like the best way to get through the courses is to use study guides for the similar classes from other programs.

I'm shooting for may 2015 also. I'm just waiting for my transcript to be evaluated. :)

In my experience, the best way to get through the courses is to just go to the tasks in Taskstream and plug away at them.

For exams, do the pre-exam, see what areas you need to brush up on them, and read through those areas in the course of study.

I did not use any outside textbooks for any of the classes. And honestly, there were only a few classes for which I had to use the etexts that WGU provides.

They give a suggested plan to move through the course. They also have live and recorded webinars so that if you a auditory learner you can still be successful.

I was told that if you choose to complete your BSN through WGU with the intention of finishing an advanced degree at a different school, the BSN earned through WGU is worthless. And the reason for this is, WGU grades on a pass/fail vs a GPA system. I am not sure if there is truth to this, but that is what I have been told. For this reason, I opted not to pursue a BSN from WGU.

FWIW I did the whole program in three months and I used no outside study guides. So they aren't necessary unless that's what you want to do.

As for the advanced degrees, many many many people here and on the facebook group have gone on to MSN programs without any problems. So what you were told is not true. :) If a school requires above a 3.0 GPA you might have issues, but other than that you should be fine. I'd check with a school you are considering for the MSN and ask them! :)
