Broward Community College Students

Hello everyone, I have a question, not sure if i should post it here, but since it has to do with BCC.

I was wondering if anyone can give me some info on their experience in regards to the campus they attend in BCC. I recently got my Pre-Admissions letter and i am undecisive on what campus to attend. I heard that the North Campus is the best campus, But I live in Miami Lakes and the North Campus is Pretty far from me. The closest campus is the central campus.

Please let me know how you like the campus you attend and how you feel about your teachers and anything else you would like to share.

Broward Communit College continues to send me letter of acceptance but I am not interested. I am in a very good nursing program and doing great. I wish you all the luck. Some of the teachers at Broward Community College like attention. Most times they rejoice when they fail students by 1 point. I have know many people who have crushed their egos and become better nurses than they are.

yeah bcc sucks, south campus, they try to weed u out with pharm, math, and med-surg basically the teachers for these classes suck, and pray you don't get anybody with a dr in front of their name for clinical (except one who i miss and loved b;c she was so humble and elegant),

oh gosh, i wish you told me earlier, was she harder on the guys? i'm like 95% sure she's going to fail me for clinical, i really don't know what to do, she makes me want to quit, and i always try and look busy but she follows me everywhere =(. she spent more than an hour and half with me in a patient's room, i seroiusly was going to walk out...

oh no! unfortunately you are the one she picked on this semester!!!!!!

I remember she did that to one of my classmates! (and my classmate- had an attitude- so the last day of medsurg1 we did the physical assessments tests-- and when it was her turn mrs. you know who, kept sending her back to sit and then my classmate got so frustrated and started yelling "that witch" over and over. so mrs. ykw got angry, called security and escorted her out, so she ended failing the lecture and clinical.

I suggest when you get to that last day-- go directly to the other clinical instructor to get tested for physical assessment. that's what I did. and that girl who failed did not do that.

so just put up with her-- try to smile eventhough it is really hard.

she will be like that to you all the way to the very end.

so when you get to ortho/neuro sign up for classes right away and do not sign up for west as you already know!!

you are better off where you are. if you are happy and doing well. it is well worth it to stay instead of starting at a new school with horrible teachers.

yeah, well i'm failing clinical i just got my mid term evaluation and next week is final... she gave me unsatisfactory for much of it and needs improvement on the rest, and unsatisfactory for the evaluation... i think i deserve it though, because at the end she wrote no enthusiasm, no initiative... which is true because i lost all interest as soon as i started med-surg, she also gave me unsatisfactory on all the basic skills too, sometimes i wonder how the heck i made it out of process....ugh. i hate her.

ok. that really stinks. So now, make sure that you do not fail lecture so you can just re-do the clinical next term and get back in the program and not have to go to LPN school. So study hard for the lecture now!!

No, she didn't leave, she is still teaching psych, but i don't think i'll be seeing her in august unless i pull a miracle this coming thursday..

I guess I'm just going to have to go down swinging, can you go ahead and explain what a typical day with her consists of?

She comes an hour late, we go upstairs and get assigned to nurses, we ask for report for a patient, we HAVE to do AM care before we can pass out meds, and do an assessment but the thing is she assigns us to the whole team not just 1 patient, but says to focus on 1 patient only. Pass out meds with her, and then go help out on the team. that's my plan for thursday cuz i have not been doing that this whole semester.. i tried to play the hiding game, which doesn't work so now i am pretty sure i'm going to fail med-surg clinicals.. blah.

LOL! somethings never change!! that is how it was with us too. I played the hiding game to-I would hide in the stairs that are next to the elevator! sometimes there are wheelchairs there-- and the stairs. SO I was pregnant at medsurge 1, so I would hide there and take a chocolate milk and the crackers and would sit there for 1/2hr- 45 mins because she was just that horrible to everyone. I always tried to be very smiley around her-- but i was very lucky that she did not pick on me- she picked someone else in my class to pick on.

Do whatever you need to do, you can even lie to her and tell her a sad story and you have not been your best because of it---- and she might give you a break--- that woman is really crazy. She would write "see me" on my care plans and that paper you have to do on how you are supposed to improve everyday after clinicals-- and I would never go and see her- and I still made it.

Now when I had the second medsurg I did not hide- she changed, and was not on top of us like the first class-- I would tell her- "Im ready to give my med.. is that ok?" and we would go to the room---And she told us at the end of clinical day that she liked to scare the medsurg 1 students because they are just coming out of process and need to get afraid so they don't mess up- and they thank her later for it. and one of my classmates she is so blunt she said to her "wow, so tomorrow you are gonna have a different face" and mrs ykw said "yes" and laughed.

She is horrible. I don't know how other students go back to visit her--- but I would definitely have mrs ykw instead of the pharm teacher--- I had that dr. pharm teacher for a little bit of peds, and during peds clinicals---and it was horrible. she remembers everything-- and picks on you as well until she finds a small tiny reason to fail you--- so I would definitely take crazy over total lunatic.

LOL.

God willing, you will pass-- get away from her and move on to the next thing and as soon as you know it, you will be out of that school and be like me, telling stories about it! :0)
