  1. Hello. I graduated in May 2009 and also feel the same way. Although it is not the patients I find demanding, it is the staff I work with. They want me to ignore that I am a new grad and just "jump in". I am terrified of forgetting/hurting a pt, and of getting written up for doing something wrong. It has come to a point where I fix my schedule to make sure that I work with the "nicest" and most helpful nurses so that I can feel some type of comfort. Hang in there. We can do it...one way or another.
  2. Holy Smokes!! Sissiesmamma, that is a very frightening experience. I am a new grad about to start my L&D experience.
  3. Thanks! It went well I think, but I am up against 17 other applicants for 6 positions. Very laid back. They were VERY nice and excited that I was interested. I expressed my enthusiasm and passion for being a part of the miracle of birth. I hit on a couple of things I knew and researched about the hospital that were community based. I told them i was flexible and wanted to rest my head at their company and grow. I wanted to learn everything they were willing to teach or i can learn on my own and safe patient care is priority to everything. I received a tour. Met a new grad there in L&D. I feel good about it. Have to wait until next week to hear. I will continue to pray for the Lord to open doors.
  4. Hello, I have an L&D interview on Wednesday, 08/12/09. I ABSOLUTELY love this field. Of course i am nervous about the interview and hope that my passion and prayers cover the interview and I get it!! This sticky has been a great wealth of knowledge. I have read from the time it started in 2005 until the last post. ALLNURSES, you are the best. Like a personal mentor.
  5. Took my exam yesterday at 1:30pm. PVT gave the pop up. I prayed and know Jesus loves me. 75q's and it shut off. My heart almost came out my chest. FL BON still does not show license. I am still praying, but starting to feel confident that HE loves me enough to bless me and my family with this license.
  6. I will join in prayer.
  7. Hello to all, I graduated on May 2009. This was not an easy road at BCC mainly because of the instructors' lack of organization and compassion. However, i am greatful that I was not babied because i know now more than ever to rely on myself. After graduation is a HUGE wakeup call. Its time to get your finances in order in order to survive the wait for your state boards. NO ONE seems to be hiring new grads as general nurses anymore (maybe due to the economy?). Its back to serving to muster the money to pay for the exam and licensure. Having said that it is so wonderful to realize how much you know and can apply to your everyday life. Just here studying and waiting to take the exam. Good Luck to all!!
  8. Yes!! A year and some months in and still counting. I graduate in May 2009. Not a fun ride folks!! Not at all. I am learning a ton though. Central Campus is the campus of champions. It takes alot of studying, time, patience, positivity (GOD), and psychology to make it this far. I am a little nervous about this class (Ortho-Neuro) that I am in though because life is finally taking its toll on me being in this program. Everything you can think of is happening all at once during this horrible economy. For those who spoke of Mrs. ywk, I have heard those stories (lol)..never had her, but i have also heard that she is the best nurse to have if you are dying in the hospital. I have gotten a little side tracked with trying to juggle life, but its all good. So far I have gotten the HCA scholarship, one C (Med Surg 1-nightmare), an A (in pharm..duh) and all B's. I love the OB instructor (maybe because i love OB) because she is the most down to earth. Not very intimidating. Everything she teaches is relevant to what you will do in that field. Loved it!! Good luck to all.
  9. Thanks for the congrats. WOW!! AN A!!??!! We would have died for that. I got a B. NO ONE in my Process class got an A. I am at the Central Campus. For many of us C is continuing. Two people I know got a B in GIGU and they deserved it. I have heard some creepy stories about that math exam. Any suggestions on practice questions? Any websites? Thanks again.
  10. OMG!!! I cannot believe that I made it out of GIGU. First time I got a C in a class ever, but I am just going to deal with it. Moving on to Peds. I am very afraid, but am starting my reading now. Wish me luck!
  11. Doesn't seem like very much for all the stress in nursing school.
  12. I brought the bundle so that I have all the books. The CD really helped me with my online quizzes and studying from module.
  13. No, I didn't debind my book. I just brought the textbook to class and highlighted during the lecture. I didn't have to carry many books because I only had one class on Mon and Fri, Clinicals on Wed., and Pharm on thurs. nights. I just kept everything ready in the car and used the disk at home. It will really help if you get a laptop and use the CD that comes with the box. It has most of the texts on it. You'll get into the swing of it. Keep Tabers nearby, too.
  14. Micro...is a blur. I remember that all of the classes were the issue. you had to know what bacteria/virus/protozoa/etc. caused what disease. It was so hard to remember all of them, but I was forced to rely on my book because my teacher was all over the place so I had no choice but to learn them. What makes it so hard is remembering the families, class, whether they are gram stain negative or positive. I still am a little fuzzy on the gram stains, but I am planning on brushing up on that. My advice. read each chapter, take your notes on them, do the chapter questions, and use the CD included in the book. Good luck.
