Hi everyone I didn't see one made yet so I guess this will be the official thread for BC May 2015!
I have a friend that started this may in the program! She's letting me know all the details for when I start in August. She says it's not like what people say, she was scared to start because all of the negative stuff said about browards program. She told me you basically have to study a lot but that's every nursing program. If you practice and study you will be fine. The people that fail out either don't study or try to work full time or have other distractions that makes them fail out. You just have to study study study and practice and everything will fall In place. Don't let the negative comments make u afraid to startí ½í¸Š the broward program is not what people say it is. It's what u make it. They get u ready to be an RN at the end! Every nursing program will be hard
Thanks Loulakis for the positive note. Well RescueNinja, lets go for it and give all we have and hopefully our 100% will be good enough. Just leave all distractions behind for 18 months. It is scary but when you make it to the end you will be glad you decided to do it. I want to go to North, If thats where you are planning on going we can encourage each other and hopefully get other support.
Hello everyone! Long time! Was reading through the thread. Yes the reason you don't see us in here much is because we are busy studying and practicing! It's no joke starting in the summer but it's definitely doable. I go to south and yes they are strict but honestly they need to be strict it helps to structure good nurses! Practically everyone in my class is still there. Working hard and practicing. Those who have left honestly to me are people who just can't follow simple directions or don't like to be told what to do. Like your hair needs to be up and off the collar, i didn't realize that was such a hard things to do. Or bringing the proper supplies with you to class. This isn't high school it's college! Hey guess what! When u get a job as a nurse your gonna be told what to do and given directions. If you get scared off by a few professor's your definitely not gonna cut it. Some people try and say "oh I think they enjoy failing us" or "they want us to fail" its not true. You just need to realize that in order for you to learn the material and absorb the knowledge you need to work hard and study!!! They're not just going to give u the answers. Yes it will take a lot of your time you will still have time for yourself once in a while. Not alot! I'm talking like an hour or so then back to studying. There's people I know who are working and doing fine. Again that's their preference or because they need to. It's up to you to manage your time. Do what I suggested those of u serious about starting. Get the perry potter fundamentals AND skills book start reading and practicing vital signs, health assessment and patient safety! Get ahead so u don't feel overwhelmed. You'll need those 2 books for lecture and clinical. Yhe program is hard and demanding if you can't put 110% into it your gonna get frustrated and want to quit. If you don't like being told what to do or can't follow simple instructions then this program ain't for you. Honestly I think everyone here can do that! Good luck in whatever decision you make. I'm off to study some more!
GG_Alice, you are going to be a very good nurse, I can tell. Whenever you are not mistreated try to remember that this too will past. 18 months will come and go very soon and you will be a RN and some of the entitled spoiled brats just might not make it through to the end. You are strong and you will make to through.
Thank you guys so much for replying, I've been trying to convince myself for the last few days to put my big girl pants. I cant let this program scare me away again. Sweetcup, you are so sweet , I want to give you a hug and a kiss😊. I plan on going to North too but if I dont get accepted i will be going to a Lpn program instead. I will leave everything in God's hands. If we actually come out of this program alive it's only going to make us strong (what doesn't kill you make you stronger) singing voice.
You can tell this from dolfanjenny and GG_Alice's replies. dolfanjenny just started and she already has her game face on. The proffessor who pressures GG_Alice, knows she's good, they can see it through her grades. But You can't let proffesors and their issues stop you from achieving what you want. These ladies are amazing and are such great examples, this is the kind of attitude we need to have in order to get through this. When life throughs us wood and nails, we make houses. When Broward Colleges nursing program throughs us tests and assignments,WE MAKE A's!!

RescueNinja, I am feeling the same way too. I am not from the area and so I don't know the dynamics of the schools here but based on what I hear I am not feeling comfortable at all about starting. I notice that I don't see the familiar names once the program started???? Are they too busy studying, or????? Other city or county colleges you get in the program work hard, study hard and a good amount of the class graduate on time. Its different here, I am asking why too.
