All of you going to central Alice has the right idea! Bonus! She brings snacks!!! happy studying!
Hey Everyone! I'm new to this and have a few questions. I just finished my classes and need to take the Hesi, I'm trying to apply for the Fall term but just a little confused on a few thingsWhat exactly do they look for when it comes to GPA is it only the 5 classes like A&P 1&2, Micro & Micro Lab, and English?
Ive heard of people getting accepted into the program while still taking Micro or not finishing pre Math yet..for example I still have to take statistics but was told this wont affect my chances of getting into the program.
Any information would be helpful sorry if I've asked questions that have already been answered.
Good luck to everyone
hey alisha87 getting started and finishing up the prerequisites is a huge step I know it was for me. I'm pretty sure you don't need Micro to apply and get accepted into the program. If there is any way to get into a Micro class before the fall I would recommend it but if not you can take Micro before Ortho/Neuro during the 6 week summer break you will have (you actually can't take ortho/neuro until its done but not a big deal). I think you do need to take the general math class to apply.
As for GPA don't worry about a specific GPA just pass your classes. You obviously want A's but if you have B's and maybe a C here in there you will probably get into the program. Just really meet the minimum requirements and your good. But you really want to do great in the classes and become a great student with excellent study habits (you will need them)
And your Hesi score really doesn't matter you just need to pass all the areas.
The main thing is that you need to be an excellent student to be successful in the Nursing program. The nursing classes are very different than any other classes you've taken and much more difficult.
Honestly the Broward Nursing Program is not the most difficult program to get into. Just meet those minimum GPA requirements i think its a 2.5 and do all the prereqs and pass the Hesi and your good. Once you apply and get accepted then they will send you a list of immunizations, background checks, and drug screens and your pretty much in.
The true test is staying in the program and becoming the best nurse and person you can be. This is the most respected RN programs in South Florida cause its tough as nails. To prepare read chapters for your first exam in Perry and Potter and also the chapters on the Nursing Process, Assessment, Diagnosis, Planning, Implementaion, and Evalution (this will help you start thinking like a nurse). Lastly get Test Success book and/or Fundamentals of Success which will help you learn how to take the exams (which are like no other exams you've taken)
Good Luck and look forward to you becoming a proud and hardworking Broward Nursing Student
Thank you for your reply. I unfortunately have a 2.46 GPA due to failing Mac1105 (horrible at math) this past semester which dramatically dropped my GPA. So I'm really stressing about that. I figure if I take Statistics during the summer and pass I will have a good enough GPA to get into the program meeting the GPA minimum of 2.5
I passed both Micro lab and lecture with a C its not the best but its passing.
Did you find the HESI to be hard? I have collected various review materials even a 200 page practice test from a university and I'm finding it to be relatively easy (basic knowledge) just seems extremely long
Thanks for all your help.
Hi alisha87, I was not good at math but I had to go back to the basics, go all the way back to where you get stuck at and practice practice and practice problems. You have to be able to do math because its going to keep coming up again and again through life. With the hesi you have to practice basic math and study the A&P. Devote some time every day for it. Go take the HESI, if you fail some part of it hess will help you study to retake it. Its thats simple, don't stress.

I agree with sweetcup, you will need math even if it's not necessarily to enter the program. I think a good resource for you to study your HESI exam with is the "Elsevier admission assessment exam review" book, you can purchase it in the book store on campus. I personally used the McGraw Hill's 3 Evolve reach and the Elsevier admission assessment book but I think the Elsevier admission assessment book was much more helpful.

Omg! First week over! It's alot of info!!! Those of you starting next term make sure u brush up on math problems (conversions/proportions) and brush up on clinical skills like vital signs, sterilization, physical assessment etc. Read those chapters in the book. Speaking of books definitely need perry potter fundamentals AND skills book!!! Read the chapters pertaining to what I mentioned above! Get a head start cause you will feel overwhelmed! Other books I suggest are the Jarvis pocket book and drug guide. If you're not familiar with medical terms and definitions get the tabers cyclopedia (dictionary) it's all in the booklist those are the main ones we are using right now. Learn 'em live 'em love 'em!!!
This is for south campus but I think all of us are pretty much learning all these same basic stuff. Well back to studying!!!!
Good luck everyone!
