Broward College Acceptance

Published

hey to all,

right now i am at a lost for words because i just checked my email with broward college and i was accepted, so i know that others must have received a confirmation. just to confirm it i called and spoke with twanna burnee and she confirmed it. so, good luck to all others who have applied. to be completely honest, i really didn't expect to get accepted since it was a very last minute thing. cheers to me and others for the summer program!!!!!!!! i am in, i am really in.........:yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah:

2bnurse, thanks for that heads up. If I get in the program, it won't be until next year Jan and I will be finished with all of my classes this May. Going from what my sis has told me (and she has had 3 chem classes), the pharmacy class is challenging. She advised me, if there was any way possible to try to take Pharm and math for nursing before I get into the program as it will be less stress on me especially as I have to work full time.

I will look into it, and if so, see if I can register for the online class when it becomes open.

REgarding your points, I think the reason why you may not have gotten in is the 'Micro ' class. My other sister called Tawanna B and she said that there were lots of 7pointers and the tie breakers went to which and how many other co-requisites and general ed classes the student had.

In any event, make sure that all of the schools have your most recent transcripts. I wouldn't give up, see if you can get an updated transcript over (it is a long shot but worth a try).

bmlex, my sister who is currently in the program at south and i were just talking about suggesting to my other sis who just got in to think about deferring to the fall if possible and going to south.

i'm not sure if there is a true deferral process. i think you have to reapply, which may be risky. some students don't want the extra stress of beginning in the summer. so, it's possible that summer admissions may be less competitive.

reasons:

south is closer to her

she would be able to use the exact books as my sister who is currently in the program thus saving money the college adopts the textbook not the campus. so, your sisters can share books regardless of the campus they are attending. in fact, some students who have a tight budget by an older edition of the same book for a fraction of the price ($6 compared to $150!)

she would have more time to focus on math which is her week subject by taking the math refresher course for nurses as it is not a credit course and seeing if she could then register to take math in the summer so by the fall,

the math is basic rates and proportion. the math review course offered is the same as the 6 week math class you take in the program. if she is concerned about math, she may want to visit a nursing tutor (not a regular math tutor) at the lrc in the north regional library.

she would only have process 1 and pharmacy to take i.e less stress

the course load is the same regardless of when you start. the first semester everyone takes process i, process ii, the clinicals, pharm, and math. the only way to lighten the load is to take pharm at pbcc or online through bc central (if it's still offered) prior to entering the program.

she could use the summer to work as much overtime and save money and get finances in order as she will have to drop to part time as no way can she stay in the program, work 75hrs and hope to do well.

good luck to all who are entering in the summer. i strongly recommend that you get a hold of a reading list and start studying now. if you have a math phobia or math learning disability, you may want to work on that now as well. you may want to consider visiting a tutor for some guidance if you don't know where to start.

Thanks for the feedback. i have one sister currently in the program and she is a math and chemistry whiz. So far, she has passed all ofher tests,. She got a 100% on her math test. She said that pharmacy is challenging and suggested trying to get that class out of theway.

i just checked PBCC and saw that they offer a 3cr pharm cost online and a 2cr one. HCC in tampa's course is 3 credits and BC is 2 credits. Do you or anyone know if PBCc offers Phar online in the summer? If not I will have to take it in the Fall.

My other sister who just got admitted passed inter. algebra and is currently enrolled in applied math but she will admit that math is her weekness. She was already told to start reading but she won't have much time as she is currently enrolled in nutrition, psych, intro to computers and math. I think that she may drop the math.

How is it going for you? Do you know of a program that offers the math online? I'm hoping to knock that class out of the way as well.

Thanks.

I had 10 points, I received 9 from my gpa and 1 point for being a Broward county resident. I wonder why did they give a point for living in Broward when it clearly states that I don't. I wonder did this happen to anyone else.........Well anyway I am curious to know how many pople applied for this term. Also, I am wondering should I defer my seat because I am really beginning to get a little scared about starting this during the summer, especially if it's really that intensive. What do you guys/gals think?

Lex

Dont refer your seat~!!!

as long as you focus, study every day, do practice questions on any nclex question book you can find, you will do fine!!

you will make it, dont doubt yourself ever.

you try your best.

a lot of people that I've talk to that didn't make it at bc was because they did not study hard enough, they made excuses such as the teacher didn't let them have 1 point to pass the class, or that the drive is too far--- hey I used to take a nap after the drive from broward to miami, and after that, I got up and studied studied studied... so don't let anything stand in your way of becoming an RN.

lex,

by the way the summer classes are only 2 weeks shorter than regular term classes... just FYI

Does HCC not allow you to take pharm unless you're in the program like BC? Also, do they require you to take a nursing math? Is it during the program as well?

Leavingteaching.....

Can someone see the nursing tutor to go over math if they're not yet in the program? Usually, I'm pretty good at math, but I can't help being nervous about NOT failing the math tests since you can only miss 1 question.

Thanks BumblebeeRN,

Your words of encouragement are greatly appreciated.

it's going fine for me. the program doesn't offer math online. dont stress over the math. if you attend north campus, be sure to take math with the lecture instructor. math is the only course where you have an option for the teacher. the lecture instructor, gb, does a great job of breaking it down.

yes! although the college's rule is you should only be able to seek tutoring for the course you're enrolled in, they usually make an exeption for nursing students because of how challenging the program is. there are students who start meeting with tutors for study advice, to review math, etc the semester before they begin the program.

BMLEX010,

It's difficult to advise students who are about to enter the program. Some say, "Relax b/c you'll be completely committed to the program when you being." While others recommend that you read ahead so you're prepared. Just figure out what is best for you.

Hi Everyone,

Has anyone else noticed a change in their status, but not received an e-mail yet?

In early January I applied to the May/June class, for LPN to RN transition. On the BC main page, under my limited access application information, it initially said "applied". Then I think it was changed to something along the lines of "under review". But as of Thursday, it said "current status: accepted". It has also been changed on my degree audit (used to have an "N" under Program Admit Status, now has a "Y").

I'm pretty much in the same boat as some of the others, in that my points weren't very high, but I had a lot of other classes completed. And I'm currently taking micro and the lab. It sounds like I could possibly have been accepted, but since I haven't heard anything official, I definitely don't want to get excited.

Has this happened to anyone else? I am probably going to call Twanna on Monday, to see if she can shed some light. But I was just curious if anyone else noticed a change like I did, with no email. I saw it Thursday and assumed the e-mail would have come by Friday (either an acceptance or denial one, if the status was an error).

Thanks!
