hey to all,
right now i am at a lost for words because i just checked my email with broward college and i was accepted, so i know that others must have received a confirmation. just to confirm it i called and spoke with twanna burnee and she confirmed it. so, good luck to all others who have applied. to be completely honest, i really didn't expect to get accepted since it was a very last minute thing. cheers to me and others for the summer program!!!!!!!! i am in, i am really in.........:yeah:
:yeah:
i just got my denied email. i had 7 points
i am soooo sorry to hear that. i have never experienced this before so it would be hard for me to say that i know what you are going through. to say the least, sorry for your news and hopefully you can re-apply and they will accept you next term. good luck in the near future and if there is anything i can do, let me know.

Well, we just checked my sis's email and she got in! she had 7pts and she made it. I don't think that this semester was as competitive as Jan's class. So those of you with lower gpa's there is hope especially if you have completed Micro and lab and other general ed classes. Thanks Lex!
So now, I have 2 sisters in the RN program at BC, 1 right behind the other.
Anytime hun, well I see that you have two sisters in the program. Maybe they can help me out or your sister who is in for the summer can plan to work together, for that matter. When are you applying to the program?
I am wondering should I defer my seat because I am really beginning to get a little scared about starting this during the summer, especially if it's really that intensive. What do you guys/gals think?Lex
Hell no!! keep your seat girl, It is very hard and will only get harder to get accepted. Just say goodbye to your social life and family and study your butt of the first semester. Make school top priority. Good luck and congrats on your acceptance.
BMLex, my sister who is currently in the program at South and I were just talking about suggesting to my other sis who just got in to think about deferring to the Fall if possible and going to South.
REasons:
South is closer to her
She would be able to use the exact books as my sister who is currently in the program thus saving money
She would have more time to focus on math which is her week subject by taking the math refresher course for Nurses as it is not a credit course and seeing if she could then register to take math in the summer so by the fall, she would only have Process 1 and pharmacy to take i.e less stress
She could use the summer to work as much overtime and save money and get finances in order as she will have to drop to part time as no way can she stay in the program, work 75hrs and hope to do well.

I now live in Tampa. I got my AS from BCC and my BS from Barry University down there. I will applying this May for the Jan 2010 evening/weekend program at Hillsborough Community College.
I plan on taking chemistry, dev psyc this summer as I am currently taking micro, ap2 and nutrition. I've completed sociology, psych, college algebra, stats and all my other GE classes.
I am trying to see if I can find a college that offer a 3cr pharm class that I can take before the program that would transfer in. I also plan on reading ahead, brushing up on math and taking a med. terminology class in the fall and reviewing my AP which is a big part of the program.

2bnurse, I am sorry about your news but don't give up. Imagine having 2 sisters who applied at the same time, 1 works in the hospital envirnoment for 23yrs and 1 is a college nerd who does't work. The nerd gets in and the other sis didn't.
Well, now, my other sis finally got in and I for one thought that she had no chance but there is always a chance in miracles and faith so don't give up or give in. What God has for you is for you no matter what.
Which classes have you taken? Did you have micro completed?

Thanks to the both of you. I will definitely consider that. I just feel sometimes like I am pressed for time so I really want to graduate next year. Also, I am still deciding if this is the school I want to attend, sigh . I will consider all options and make a list of all the pros and cons because I am in no way looking for a easy way out. I know that it would be hard work no matter what semester I am in, but I also know that it would be even harder during the summer semester. I know it's doable, but the real question- is it set up for failure because it's soooooo darn hard during the summer?
2bnurse-
I am really sorry to hear that. I can't imagine why you didn't get in with 7 pts and Newgoal's sis did with 7. The only thing I can think of is: Did you complete micro already? That may have been the make or break point. If its already complete, then I have no idea why this is.
Newgoal- I don't think they will let you defer. I had asked a current nursing student this already, and she told me you could not. She can always check. The other thing is she can talk to the Assoc Dean of Nursing at North and see if they will allow her to transfer to South after the first semester. At the info session I attended, she made it seem like they "may" do this for good reasons on occasion, however, I could have misunderstood her. I know they don't usually allow you to do that, but it couldn't hurt to ask.
I already took micro, but as you know my current school is not BCC so when i sent in my transcript i was enrolled in micro since then i have completed it. but i didnt bother to resend them a new transcript (i should have aint?) so to their knowledge this applicant is missing micro (which im not) but it looks that way on paper.

i believe you said you were looking for a 3 credit pharmacology class that you can transfer in right? i am currently enrolled at PBCC in that class its called NUR2140. you can take it now and transfer it over, so when you get in the nursing program its a burden off your plate the first semester.
its a hard class just by itself....definately look into it. they have a online class too.
sunraygurl
im sorry too that i didnt get in but im going to keep pressing and not let this get me down.
its a hassle with PBCC cause the seats already filled up for the NLN test. so i have to go apply/send transcript the whole nine yards to indian river college just to take the test over there...bummer.
but ill do it!! in Gods grace.
I agree with you. You said it best, consider all the options. Do you have any week areas? ie math or clinicals etc Do you have ny commitments that you may need to clear up ie bills, savings, etc. consider everything and it is not giving up a seat if they would let you defer to Aug and old a spot for you then if that is what you decide. Do you work?
Consider everything and come up with a decision that will work for you.
Good luck!

I had 10 points, I received 9 from my gpa and 1 point for being a Broward county resident. I wonder why did they give a point for living in Broward when it clearly states that I don't. I wonder did this happen to anyone else.........Well anyway I am curious to know how many pople applied for this term. Also, I am wondering should I defer my seat because I am really beginning to get a little scared about starting this during the summer, especially if it's really that intensive. What do you guys/gals think?
