hey to all,
right now i am at a lost for words because i just checked my email with broward college and i was accepted, so i know that others must have received a confirmation. just to confirm it i called and spoke with twanna burnee and she confirmed it. so, good luck to all others who have applied. to be completely honest, i really didn't expect to get accepted since it was a very last minute thing. cheers to me and others for the summer program!!!!!!!! i am in, i am really in.........:yeah:
:yeah:
Well, she said, at some point in that meeting, that if someone happened to get into Pharm, and she caught it in time, they would be taken out of the class so that just the nursing students were in it. I don't know if she meant "just" at north campus or not.
Really?!? I didnt catch that. I would think they would be more likely to make exceptions there since they have more room, it seems. Hmm...there has to be a way.
Yeah, someone had asked about taking the pharm class. Anyway, I'm thinking she meant if she caught anyone taking it only at North Campus, so maybe there's still hope at Central. Plus there's always PBCC, although I'm going to just wait to take it at BC since I've heard the professor is great. At Central there's two, a male and a female. The male is the same one who teaches it at North, and he's the one I heard is great.
dizzy-were you at the pre-admit mtg on 3/13? thats the one i went to.
leaving-
as far as taking the class at central, all the classes have that nursing designator, so who should we talk to at central to see if we can get in? advisor? registration?
they may not be offering it now for non-nursing students. you can try to follow up with an advisor or registration.

if you were able to register for pharm, you would be able to stay in as long as you kept your mouth shut. administration doesn't have a clue what's going on. they are students who skip classes, have expired certficates, etc. no one gets caught until another student snitches!
I was going to try to register for it anyway. There was one class that did not have any nursing restrictions attached, but by the time I was able to register, it had become restricted like the others, so I couldn't do it, at least without the help of an advisor or registration. But I think I am just going to wait until I'm in the program anyway.

Yeah....I tried registering too, but it is restricted. Oh well. Anyway, I signed up for that college success skills class for health sciece students thinking I may get something out of it that will help, but I just had a friend that started taking it before her program starts in May but she dropped it. Do you guys think it would be helpful? Also, what about the Math Review for Nurses CAE course? Has anyone heard if it is helpful? I guess I really just dont want to take this summer off. Thanks for any input!

personally, i think it would be more beneficial to find a course or book on test taking skills and critical thinking skills. the college success course is required when you fail a class. i haven't heard anything good about the course.
also, what about the math review for nurses cae course? has anyone heard if it is helpful?
the math required for nursing is basic rates and proportion. i wouldn't spend the money for the course. if you're nervous about the math, you may want to seek guidance from a nursing tutor at the lrc in the north regional library.
i guess i really just dont want to take this summer off. thanks for any input!
i have mixed feelings about taking the breaks off. you could practice the math, get the reading list and read ahead, get the pharm notes and look though those, etc. or, you could relax and enjoy your family an friends b/c the first semester will be difficult and you won't have much time for them.

thanks for your guidance! i was contemplating taking the sls course because when i went to orientation the associate dean at north mentioned it posibly being beneficial, but i too haven't heard anything that great about it. i am a bit nervous about the math, but instead of paying for the cae course getting the book sounds like a better idea. although i heard that the cae course is from the exact same book as the math we need. i already bought that "fluids and electrolytes made incredibly easy" to read before i start. i guess i am just a little anxious since everyone says how difficult that first semester is. :uhoh21:

The Pikar book, right? I'm nervous about math, too. Funny thing is I'm really good with numbers and math, and I know that these are easy math problems but they add info into the word problems that you don't need and because I will be nervous, I will end up reading too much into the problems. I want to be as prepared as I can be, as well, but I'm still up in the air about whether or not to take that CAE math class. I guess I will first get that book and see how that goes. I think there are practice math problems on the website to check out, too.

yes, thats the book. i haven't ever had a problem with math either, but i know my nerves will be the problem. i too have that issue with reading too much into the question. im registered for the class, but i'll decide when i get closer to it if im going to go through with it, and after i look through the book. it's nice to know i am not the only one with some nervousness about it.
The CAE is the same math course, it can't hurt. However, if you are self directed, you can save the money and review on your own. I don't thing that you will be needing the electrolytes and fluid information for Process 1. Review your anatomy, practice math, get Brickman for Pharm and you should be ok.
