question about 1st semester nursing books.

do i need to purchase the "bundle" of books when i go to the book store?

will i use (open) all those books?

Which ones do you suggest, that is mostly important. Im asking beacuse i dont have all that money and would prefer not to buy books that your not even going to use. thank you for your response.

I am in the program at the Central Campus, Although you wont need ALL the books for process 1 and 2 i bought the bundle because it just made sense too. The bundle bring the Jarvis book which your going to use in process 1 for your Physical Assessment, it also brings the nursing lab skills book which you need for the lab in process 1 and 2 and the remainder of the program and it also brings the MEd-Surg book which your going to use in GIGU so it made sense for me to buy the bundle because when you add all these books up seperately and compare the price of the bundle it makes more sense $$$ wise to get the bundle because it includes alot of books you need . Also if you can get the Test Success and Fundamentals success book, these helped me quiz myself with the chapters I read in Perry and potter and helped me do better on my exams. Be prepared to be happy with a C in the course, you just want to GET THROUGH IT.. and read EVERYTHINGGGGG all the chapters. Speed read (something I learned being in nursing school) then highlight the most important points, then read over your highlights, read your power points, and do the fundamentals success book and your in. Thats all you need to be successful and study every day, Folleco states to study 24 hours a week for Process 1 and 2 ( I didnt study THAT long) but it does help. I passed process 1 and 2 lecture and have a 2 year old and a significant other. So you can do it!! And stay away from NEGATIVE students who complain like "we didnt go over that in class, thats not fair that they tested us on this" You are NOT going to be spoon fed in Nursing school, you will find that it is alot of INDEPENDENT work involved. If you like studying in a study group, (which I did) Study on your own first ok.. this will help you to not get confused later... Wishing you must success in Nursing school :o):yeah:

How do you like Central Campus? I've always heard North is the best, but I have never heard from students who attended Central to see how Central is.

I bought the packet as well. However, I don't recommend it now b/c some of the books I've never used (lab and diagnostic book, Fundamentals study guide, pharm book, which I don't think is included now.) Other students purchased the books used from half.com or off campus bookstores for a fraction of the price.

The only benefit to buying the bundle was the electronic copy of the book. However, now they're selling it seperately in the book store. And I haven't used the electronic book since process. Also, you want to be sure the bundle has the most updated books. In Jan, the bundle had the old Lab and Diagnostic book. However, the bookstore didn't discount the price. In the program, (north campus for sure) you can be successful and save money if you buy an older edition (just 1 edition older though).

I like the Central Campus, Its ok, I heard its the same everywhere, its a dog eat dog world no matter what campus you go to, its on your own work so no matter what Campus your on its still a culture shock, and still a tough program all around. Im not sure why they say North Campus is the best, I heard that before I applied to the program, havent spoken to anyone at North Campus to know why its good. They give you tests and its pass or fail, they dont have any remorse and everyone just sort of moves on, its survival of the fittest. I just want to get to graduation..

How much longer do you have until you graduate? And what hospitals do you do your clinicals at?

I live close to north, so it makes sense that I go there. However, I may be moving before I start the program, and I would be living pretty much in between both campuses, so I'm open to both, I just wouldn't ever go to south, just because it's too far away compared to north and central. I've always liked the Memorial Hospital system (I grew up in Hollywood) but I just can't bring myself to drive all the way down there several times a week.

I don't really know why they say north is the best, either. I don't think anyone really knows why, lol. I know there is room for more students, but as far as I've heard, the professors are just as disrespectful and degrading there as any other campus. Oh well.....

Do I have to take MTB1370 (Math Topics For Health Related Professions) and APB1600 (Pharmacology) in my first nursing semester or can I want for a future semester?

I know the first semester is very hard so I do not want to over do it.

Thanks for feedback!

Here's the Physical form that you will have filled out. On page 4 is the vaccine info.

Thanks a bunch, Sunraygurl! Now I can get a little more ready.

Do you guys know how much the bundle is?

Do you guys know how much the bundle is?

thats what i want to know too. i was at the bookstore today and forgot to ask.

listen to this guys, this is what the bookstore clerk told me.

they have the uniforms on sale in the back of the store for $12 and the ones on the side are $25. keep in mind that both are nursing uniform.

she told me that the $12 ones are for students already in the program....because the logo says BROWARD COMMUNITY COLLEGE and the $25 one says BROWARD COLLEGE.

since they change the name of the school new students are required to get the one that says Broward College for $25 bucks.

so im thinking to myself i am going to purchase the $12 one. reason.

1. its less expensive

2. its the same exact uniform top (except for the word Commmunity)

3. the teachers are not gonna scrutinize and look deeply on your top to see if it has the community on there or not.

4. for heavens sake its the same school.

What do you think?

If i read the booklist correctly, it looks like is $377 new.

Actually, that doesn't sound too bad, considering my A&P and Micro books alone came close to that!

Sunray, $377 for the bundle???

I don't see a problem with it, however, I honestly don't know how strict the professors are. Hopefully Leavingteaching will be able to answer this.
