hey to all,
right now i am at a lost for words because i just checked my email with broward college and i was accepted, so i know that others must have received a confirmation. just to confirm it i called and spoke with twanna burnee and she confirmed it. so, good luck to all others who have applied. to be completely honest, i really didn't expect to get accepted since it was a very last minute thing. cheers to me and others for the summer program!!!!!!!! i am in, i am really in.........:yeah:
:yeah:
Leavingteachingfor4n may be in a better position to tell you until i talk to my sister. I know that ap is the cornerstone of process 1 and a big part of health assessment. She is now doing process 2 and they are big on care plans and she is in the middle of pharm. I want to say that electrolytes and fluids come into play in Med surg but I may be wrong.
if i remember correctly, process 1 entailed the following:
history and ethics of nursing (potter & Perry text- several chapters)
pioneers of nursing ie florence nightingale
proper handwashing techniques
how to put on gloves correctly,
health assessment
return demos on skills learned
skills checkoffs
3-4wks of math classes
pharmacy
etc
nurse math test before clinicals, u are only allowed to get 1 out of 10 wrong or you fail and you have 1 more chance to take the math test. IF you fail again, you cannot start clinicals and have to retract.
thanks for your guidance! i was contemplating taking the sls course because when i went to orientation the associate dean at north mentioned it posibly being beneficial, but i too haven't heard anything that great about it. i am a bit nervous about the math, but instead of paying for the cae course getting the book sounds like a better idea. although i heard that the cae course is from the exact same book as the math we need.the ceu course is the same course with the same teacher as the one you take in the program. the school gives it a different course number so you can pay for it twice. i would recommend the math course for a student who has a math learning disability or a moderate/severe math phobia. most students in the program don't even buy the math book. however, do what works for you.
i already bought that "fluids and electrolytes made incredibly easy" to read before i start.
you won't used this book until process 2. i would recommend that you focus on process i or relax. but try not to think too far ahead. :wink2:
i guess i am just a little anxious since everyone says how difficult that first semester is. :uhoh21:
what you are feeling is normal. i think everyone starts to freak out a little before they start. check out the professors site at www.broward.edu/~gbrickma
there are sample math problems, reading list, book list (don't buy all of the books. some you'll never use), a calender, everything you need to know about your first semester (except pharm info).
again, i can't stress the importance of focusing on test taking skills and critical thinking. most students struggle b/c of a lack of these skills. for many students, it's not the info or a&p or math that brings them down. they simply don't have good test taking skills.
Test taking skills and being familiar with NCLEX style questions is key as well as having a base of knowledge to draw on. I know people who are sucessful use the Saunders NCLEX review as they are studying to answer questions pertaining to the subject that they are studying at the time.
Relax and keep your motivation high. Get organized. Clean house, room, remove clutter. Organize a study area for you at home, get chores, errands, tasks , letter writing out the way. You will be fine.
good mrng ladies..leaving teach n newgoal.question. are they going to give us photo id or is there a place where i go to get it? you get your id from student life. the nursing instructor will give you a holder to clip your id to your uniform.
question. for process class do they sell the lectures slides (like pbcc does) or you have to print them out by yourself?
you print them your self. the lecture slides are on blackboard. however, the first few are on the instructor's website at www.broward.edu/~gbrickma

newgoal and leavingteaching, thank you so much for your response. your little tips make me feel a world of better.
you know...i currently work full-time, but i am planning to resign about a month or so before i start to get everything in order and "clean house" as you put it newgoal. i know i will think clearer with everything perfectly organized! i am totally motivated and passionate about my future as a nurse and i just want to keep that up. since i came back to school last may i have done great and have actually aced all the classes i have taken since then, but i just know that these nursing classes are a whole different ballgame and i want to be prepared for that.
anyway, thanks a bunch!
Here's the Physical form that you will have filled out. On page 4 is the vaccine info.

question about 1st semester nursing books.
do i need to purchase the "bundle" of books when i go to the book store?
will i use (open) all those books?
Which ones do you suggest, that is mostly important. Im asking beacuse i dont have all that money and would prefer not to buy books that your not even going to use. thank you for your response.
DO NOT purchase all the books. I never opened some of those books. For process I, you only have to have the Perry and Potter Fundamentals book (if money is tight get the 6th edition) and the Perry and Potter Skills book (buy the current edition (6th)). You can check half.com for affordable books.

Thanks for the guidance. When do you think we'll need the electrolytes, because at the pre-admission session she said it would be good idea to go ahead and read it. So anatomy would be good to go over for Process 1, huh? Thanks a bunch!
