BROOKLN ADULT LEARNING CENTER-LPN Program

U.S.A. New York

Did anyone attend this school, or know any info. about their LPN program?

It's more convenient for me to attend this school, and was hoping it was a good school. I think its free or at least cheaper than most schools out there. So i was wondering if they had clinicals, and were thorough with material, and so on...?

Well, any info. would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all!

My aunt graduated from that program, she said it was good but the same thing very disorganized. It's a very intense program just as are all LPN programs. If you are dedicated and want to do it it can be done. It's hard to get into thousands of people apply per year, you have to basically get a perfect score on the exam, took it twice was unsuccessful. It was not that hard but I weak at math, do try to get into other programs. I took three different exams for three different schools, passed two, decided to go to one in New Jersey that was newly opened. Good Luck.

Ah thank u for all the information Platinum, i greatly appreciate it lol. I wanted to go there because of the location and price, sad to hear they're disorganized tho. But since you graduated and everything, did u feel well prepared for the nclex pn...?

and i was just wondering how the admission process was...?

Sorry for the additional questions, yr just the first person I seen on this board who actually went to the school, and finished it...

Thanks.

No problem. I'm glad to help! Well, actually I feel that they really did prepare us for the NCLEX. They even had us take a mandatory 6 week review course and gave us a meds pub review book, which really helps when you use it together with Saunders or Mosby. I took the exam for the first time in October and passed it as most of my classmates did. As far as the admission process, it was very long & drawn out and they only pick about 150 people altogether for both the Manhattan & Brooklyn locations. Every December they give out applications to take the c-net exam which is usually given beginning in Febuary and ending some time in May. The exam consist of three parts, Math, Reading comprehension, and Verbal. My weakest point was the Math so I spent the extra $40.00 and got the comprehensive review book, which helped me to pass. You only need to score above the 40th percentile in each of those sections to pass. After you pass the C-Net, they send your scores in the mail along with an application and medical forms, which they ask you to fill out and send back to them by a certain date, which I learned later very few people actually did and it caused a lot of confusion. They also tell you that they will send you a letter in the mail telling you when to come in for further testing which is the TABE exam. If you think the C-Net is bad, the TABE is worse, I honestly don't know how i passed it. I'm really good in english but my math skills at the time were terrible and the TABE had a lot of algebra on it. Once you pass the TABE, they send you a letter in the mail telling you to bring all your documents (all the documents that they asked you earlier to send ahead with your application) and come in for an interview. I can't remember much at this point but I think when we got there they had us write an essay on why we wanted to be a nurse and then they called us up one by one and evaluated our applications and told us if we had anything missing. Then we went into another room and interviewed with some of the teachers of the program. I don't remember much of what was asked but I remember it was basically why do you want to be a nurse, does your family support your decision to come to this program, etc. Afterwards, they tell you that they'll send you a letter in the mail letting you know if your accepted, which for most people didn't come until a couple weeks before the program actually started, if it came at all. And that's basically it. I could go on and on about the process & the program but it's a lot of information so if you have any more specific questions I'm happy to help.

I'm glad I could help because I remember going through the same thing last year and if it wasn't for kind people who actually attended the program who passed along the information I probably wouldn't have known about the program in the first place. As far as the essay, during the admission process it's not gonna be a big deal. They just skim through it. However, during the actual program you will be doing A LOT of writing. I did at least 4-5 major papers during the 10 months, and that includes presenting in front of the class. Well, good luck with the test and I will advise you after you get the application to send it in ASAP because the longer you wait the more crazy things will get later on in the process when your trying to meet deadlines.

They are VERY competitive, and have limited seats. I tested for the program many years ago, but there were so many applicants and my math skills suck, so, I didn't get in. Since then, I went to LaGuardia Community College and got my LPN from there. Good luck!

The program is indeed intensive, and you are responsible for a lot of work on your own, applications for this program is given out every year in Dec. and testing starts in Feb. In addition to the CNET test, you'll be also taking a TABE test if qualified, then an interview will follow if both scores are satisfactory. Platinum basically told you everything that you need to know, I wish i found this site sooner!

I went to the brooklyn campus, got thru finished with 90 average on my report card and have failed the nclex 3 times. Some people got thru the first time but not everyone. I took the course and graduated from the intense 10 month course in june 2006.

Im in the process of studying for the fourth attempt.

And yes, the students have had to teach themselves alot of the course and yes it was really disorganised. Maybe it improved the next year but i would not go back if i had the choice again.

hi i am one of those students that will be taking the test in may for the LPN program, if you have any information for me that will be useful please pass it on thank you

I studied very hard for the cnet exam. I bought their study booklet and bought quite a few practice exams.

After that, every spare time i had i studied that booklet and did those exams over and over again until i was sick of the whole thing.

If i remember correctly their were 3 or 4 parts to it, each timed. You had to do them one after the other. I took my cnet exam near the port authority on 42nd street and their were not too many people with me so that was good.

I remember i had to go over long division again because i had not touched it for a while. After the cnet exam they will tell you not too long later i think if you have an interview or another exam to attend in the actual school. I had them both on the same day at the manhatten campus. I forgot what exam that was called but mine was similar to the cnet exam. Actually it may have been a little wait until i was called in but eventually when you will pass the cnet exam they will contact you probably by mail.

You need to tell them that you have alot of support from your partner or you boy or girl friend and that someone is supporting you while you take the course because it is very difficult to hold a job while doing this course however some did and got thru and now they are successful nurses thank goodness. You need to also work well with people if you are going to take this course which if you study and buy those booklets i'm sure you will pass. Some dont make it but if you set your mind to it you will. There is alot of team work in the course and if you all work together when you get into the course you will pass without a problem. I must say they also encourage that too.

Anyway, like i said the first step is to buy the study guide and some practice exams and i think you will be set as long as you go over them before hand.

Be well and good luck to you.
