  1. I'm also an LPN that studied a while ago and just recently passed my license with no luck in finding a job in nyc. Its either they are not hiring or you need one year experience. How do u get that experience that is my question that no one is able to answer apart from apologize and say tuff luck buddy....I'm with you on that...what happened to the time when nurses were needed....Ive been out of the nursing scene for a while but I didnt expect so much change. I guess the cuts in the economy are everywhere even nursing. Im just curious to know why so many people took my resume at the job fair i went to 4 weeks ago and not one call back...I thought i had something to offer? Take care and good luck with the rn studies...where u going for ur rn...i might just join u....
  2. Gday, Im reading this 2 years after it was originally written and wondering if that is still the case....I finally recently just passed my lpn license after a break and 5 times at trying over several years. I also have a bachelors degree in an unrelated topic however i was at a job fair today and it seems as if the pace double degree for people with a bachelors looks really good for me and i could actually do it. That is once the prereqs are done and doing the course over 2 years...at the end i will have a bsn and a masters in nursing....Is this school still just as bad as it was two years ago...Im a guy that needs a little help when it comes to explaining some things and have many questions usually. Are the professors better now?by the time i will take the course it will be probably fall 2012...should i even try? By the way...its tuff to get an lpn job now...that is what made me look into further study...
  3. Its going to take me some time to finish it all and to find out step two but i started some questions today so hopefully i will keep it up. I must say that im out of the lpn course for 2 years now and i must be rusty on alot of topics as it was over a year since i last took the exam. Im hoping that i will conitue on a positive way and maybe ill one day pass this exam. It does not seem that i ever will thats partially why i stopped studying but ill be on this site again regurlarly and do a few questions each day. Im hoping that i can pass it. Anyway thank you for your advice and be well. simon
  4. sorry for disturbing anyone but it looks like i found it. I also have to watch that video explaining the site better so i will know how to move around in it alot easier. My first step and correct me if im wrong is to take the 3rd ed of saunders lpn review and basically do all the questions at the end of each chapter. If i get over 75 percent i move on and if not i read the chapter again. If im missing anything please tell me otherwise i guess i will be taking my saunders with me all over the place. Simon
  5. To whom it may concern, I have not been on this site for quite some time. As well, i have not taken the nclex LPN for over a year. I failed three times and even though initially i wanted to do it again i just continued on in my previous job working in group homes. I am now assistant residence manager in a group home and with a little more training i may become the residence manager. However I have always felt guilty that i never passed the nclex pn and that my time studying was for nothing.Nowadays i often do not have much time to study with my job and being a husband and father but tonight i decided to go online and look into the allnurses website once again and try and find out information on suzannes plan again. I clicked on the updated version for 2008 but it did not let me continue for some reason. I would like to start studying again somehow to pass this exam and ive tried all different ways before. I remember reading and i think i even sent suzanne a message but now i would like to try again and see what i have to do. I purchased saunders last year for the lpn and im assuming there is no updated book for 2008 lpn nclex. Anyway, If you can help me that would be great. be well and thank you in advance, Simon
  6. I studied very hard for the cnet exam. I bought their study booklet and bought quite a few practice exams. After that, every spare time i had i studied that booklet and did those exams over and over again until i was sick of the whole thing. If i remember correctly their were 3 or 4 parts to it, each timed. You had to do them one after the other. I took my cnet exam near the port authority on 42nd street and their were not too many people with me so that was good. I remember i had to go over long division again because i had not touched it for a while. After the cnet exam they will tell you not too long later i think if you have an interview or another exam to attend in the actual school. I had them both on the same day at the manhatten campus. I forgot what exam that was called but mine was similar to the cnet exam. Actually it may have been a little wait until i was called in but eventually when you will pass the cnet exam they will contact you probably by mail. You need to tell them that you have alot of support from your partner or you boy or girl friend and that someone is supporting you while you take the course because it is very difficult to hold a job while doing this course however some did and got thru and now they are successful nurses thank goodness. You need to also work well with people if you are going to take this course which if you study and buy those booklets i'm sure you will pass. Some dont make it but if you set your mind to it you will. There is alot of team work in the course and if you all work together when you get into the course you will pass without a problem. I must say they also encourage that too. Anyway, like i said the first step is to buy the study guide and some practice exams and i think you will be set as long as you go over them before hand. Be well and good luck to you.
  7. I went to the brooklyn campus, got thru finished with 90 average on my report card and have failed the nclex 3 times. Some people got thru the first time but not everyone. I took the course and graduated from the intense 10 month course in june 2006. Im in the process of studying for the fourth attempt. And yes, the students have had to teach themselves alot of the course and yes it was really disorganised. Maybe it improved the next year but i would not go back if i had the choice again.
  8. I need some advice please, I have failed three times and im going to continue going for the exam(thank you everybody that encouraged me not to give up), I have a full time job now, thank goodness, Im a supervisor on my shift in the afternoon/evenings in a group home in brooklyn. So the rent is being paid with all the other expenses my wife, son and i have. Now i'm ready to start again. I havent heard of any live courses i can attend in the mornings so i guess ill have to push myself a lot harder, even though a live session would benefit me more than the online courses. I have taken both anyway obviously something has gone wrong for me not too pass. A couple of people said i should try the board exams review online( the learning extension) just wandering what some others think about this course. I will be studying possibly in the late evening and early mornings before i go to bed for maybe one or two hours. Or should i just buy saunders and work through it. I would like to take the exam again in a couple of months. So if anyone else has any more usefull information for me please do not hesitate to pass it on. Now I'm ready to study again and finally pass this thing hopefully the next time around.I'm not going to stop until i get it whatever it takes. Thank you and all the best!!!
  9. To all who read my recent posts, I mentioned that I failed my LPN test for the third time however a job with my present employer came up. It was actually a resident manager, so i would manage everybody in the group home that i worked at, i would earn a good living and actually had the support of all the people there to get this job. That included my boss who was promoted from that position to the area coordinator position. He told me that he was going to be at the interview with his boss when she would interview me and he spoke quite highly of me before the interview, that is he said i was best suited out of all the people in the home to get the job. I recieved alot of support from everybody so i thought actually that i would have a good chance at getting it and then i would study for the lpn while i was resident manager however i would commit to this new position for a number of years even if i had passed the nclex. Mind you this position paid more than an lpn. Now im here at my computer after having the interview and I'm getting quite frustrated due to the lack of support i recieved from my boss at the interview and the fact that they said that they were thinking about my best interests. Basically my boss did a complete turn with his boss and what it felt like at the time was an attack was later to become disbelief at what my work mentor actually did and said. Anyway, basically I'm back to square one because i do not believe now i will get the position. That leaves me with finding a full time job other than this one and back to studying what im sick and tired of doing, THE NCLEX..... Mind you i called and left a message for the nurse that was not really helping me at my review course just over a week and a half ago and she still has not returned my message. Mind you she was expecting my call back then. I do not mean to dwell on the other job as this is a LPN forum but some of you mentioned to keep you posted about what happened so thats it. I'm going to look back at some of the websites people referred me too and i might even purchase the saunders book tomorrow. Im trying to believe that things happen for a reason but at this present time that is somewhat difficult. My wife is going to start pressing on me to get a full time job now but what should i do, people will look at my resume like they did in todays interview and they will not hire me because they think im already on my way to big bucks as a nurse but i need a job. Who knows when i will pass this nclex. Anyway enough of me venting sorry for the long thread i should learn more to keep myself quick and to the point. Next thread i will try to do that. I live in nyc and im going to get myself a live review somehow, one that is good especially at test taking. Thank you if youve read up until now. All the best to all...
  10. Thanks to all of you that have given me the encouragement to take this test and pass it. Lenbow, yes i could use some help because everything ive tried does not seem to work. Tomorrow I will look at those sites, Thank you. I'll keep you all posted... Thank you and have a great evening.
  11. I mentioned in another thread that I have a chance to get a really good promotion at my existing job but they know that i have been trying to conquer the nclex exam. How do i explain the 3 failures if they ask me. Obviously it sounds bad but they do not really understand what i'm going through unless their in the nclex world. Anyone have any advice on how i get out of this one, my boss knows that a lot of people have failed and he understands but i'm not just interviewing with him. Anyone have any advice?
  12. I'm not sure about the education system in canada but maybe if i took my course there instead of where i did maybe i would not need to worry about failing three times maybe i would have passed the first time. Actually i could say this about any other lpn course because my course was cheap but really disorganized and not good at all. I guess after teaching ourselves the work my classmates and I got through it. I just need to conquer the nclex finally. I may get a job like i said earlier and continue trying then instead of working as an lpn i might go to school part time to get an BSN at a good school then I will be set.
  13. To all, Thank you all for the encouragement and yes i think now i will give it another go. Lenbow, about the people that help you take tests do you know any of them or have any websites you can recommend if it is ok to tell me on this forum. I spoke to my current boss today and he is going to recommend me for his old position as he got promoted. He would still be my boss and he would train me. Actually if i get the job I will be managing a number of people including an RN, funny eh. I dont think i have heard of an lpn managing an rn before but i could be wrong. This job i would have gone for, if it was available before i took my lpn course. Anyway now it is and i'm going to try damm hard to get it. Of course i will not give up on the nclex thank you again all of you for your advice I think i may check out this years saunders books and some others we will see. If i do get the job and succeed at it i may even take an rn course part time in the evenings if i get through the lpn nclex. If anyone has any further advice on different courses or books to get feel free to let me know otherwise THANK YOU!!!!! and have a great day.
  14. To whoever, I'm an LPN graduate and just now i found out that i failed the exam here in nyc for the 3rd time. I did pretty well on my course, its been a year but if i remember correctly i got an average of 90 for the year. I have read three review manuals of which one was an online course with the videos from their review. I have done many practice questions but now i'm just at the end of it all. I have to face it i cannot pass this thing and i do not know what to do. I could take a live review course again, actually my course offered a review course but all the person did was go through the review book they sold and highlighted what she thought was important. Mind you that was with about 180 people from the two campuses at my course so it was hard to really ask her any questions. The LPN course was very difficult to get into and it was inexpensive compared to other lpn courses but I'm just at a blank now of how to get through this thing. I have a chance at my current job to get a really good position instead of pursuing this impossible exam. That is, impossible for me anyway. I'm sure tomorrow I'll feel better after a good nights sleep. If anyone has any advice of any kind feel free to let me in on it, otherwise good luck and have a good night.
  15. Thank you for your advice, much appreciated...
