Hello everyone!! I have been doing my support courses for the last year and a half and I'm going to apply for the nursing program at Brookhaven this month. Though I'm not really stressing about it I am a little worried. This is my 3rd attempt at college and the first 2 times I did horrible!! Since I made the choice to go to nursing school in Summer of 2009, I've brought my GPA up from 1.76 to 3.0. And, all my grades in my support classes have been A's and B's except 1, Nursing Pathophysiology. I made a C in that class and it would have been a B if I had not made one mistake at the end of the course. So, my question is does anyone think that C in that class will hinder me much? If anyone can offer any insight it would be great. Thanks!!
grats on the graduation.first question I have is what were the requirements on shoes. Any specific color requirement?
Thank you, Most instructors want a mostly white shoe. Some it does not matter. I would suggest just to get a white shoe so that way it makes everyone happy and you do not have to buy multiple pairs of shoes. Make sure they are comfortable because your feet will hurt. Good luck with the program.
I think they can require different things like things to fulfill the BSN only my mom did the bridge and she didn't have to retake anything even though some was old and outdated just had to take some other classes that simply weren't required when she got her associates forever and ever ago. haha
RN2B0511,Give us your best advice for succeeding in nursing school?
Did you prep before your first semester? Or just relax?
Did you work and how many hours during school?
Where did you find a job? How is the job market for others in your class?
My best advise is always remember that you can do this. There will be times that you will question if you chose the right profession, but that will pass because your confidence will keep building the furthur you get along. You will get a list of chapters to read before you start. Just review those chapters and you should be good. You will also get access to case studies. I recommend using those and NCLEX style questions to help you study for your test. As for working, that all depends on you and the type of person you are. Some people work full time while others didn't work. I worked part time in the beginning and then stopped in during third semester. As for work and the job market, it is hard out there. Use every clinical as a job interview. Always talk and get to know your nurses and nurse managers. There are some people still without jobs while some of us do have them. I was able to obtain a job a MCP. Let me know if you have any other questions. Good Luck!!
I am so happy for you RN2B0511! Grats x10(to the 6th power)! I see brookhaven puts out some helpful, friendly, and wise students. I feel very greatful that I get to be a part of it.

2. What extra things do we need to buy ex: BP cuff? Penlight?
3. If you bought the book pack from the school how do the online books work?
4. Is the brookhaven logo on the scrubs iron on or is it embroided?

Thank you for the Congrats and the compliment. The med packs contain items like 4x4 guaze, alcohol wipes, sterile qtips, and other supplies needed to practice your skills that you learn during 1st semester. The only thing extra I would buy is a penlight for doing neuro assessments and good drug guide. As you go along you may find other things you want to buy. You do not need to buy a bp cuff as one is provided at the school unless you want to use it to practice at home. As for the book package, I and most of the other students in my class thought it was a waste of money. I never used the online books. The package is about $700 and you still have to buy the Foundations book seperately and that book is about 100. You are going to find out a lot of this information at Success Camp. The scrubs are embroided with the logo, your name, and Student Nurse.
It is hard for me to tell you to relax because I remember being the same way you are now. As for the OWL try the bookstore and see what they have. LOL!! LOL!!
Let me know if you have anymore questions.
Hi Everyone,
I have also been accepted into the Brookhaven Nursing Program for Fall 2011 and am happy to see all of the excitement, and am glad we are all starting to pull together now! We will need all the support we can get in the future. I put in a request to join the FB group through Brookhaven. Nice to meet everyone!

I think it depends on your instructor about the shoes.
I got away with Mizuno running shoes that were sorta white, but more silver with pinks and yellows on the logo.
I know someone that wears white toms. super comfortable.
you can get white birks, white dansko's, white NB, BK's and the list goes on.
