  1. I am so excited. I took the NCLEX on July 21st. It cut off at 75 questions and I walked out of there feeling like someone punched me in the stomach. I did the trick and got the good pop up. Then I paid the fee to receive my early results. I can not believe I passed. I am a RN. All of my hard work has finally paid off.
  2. The clinicals are usually from about 6:30 til about 5:30. That is for first semester. It may differ from each professor. It starts at 6:30 am because you have to get there and turn in your paperwork, discuss what is going on for the day and then get to the floor by 6:45 am for shift report. Then you will have a post clinical conference to discuss your day. During second semester I was there from 6:30 am til 7 pm. You will def. have 12 hour shifts on your 4th semester clinicals.
  3. I will come back and let you know. I just do not start working on the floor until the end of June.
  4. HAHA! Sorry for the scare. I kinda worded it that way on purpose. LOL!! Thanks for the congratulations. :grad: :clpty:
  5. Well guys it is official. I am no longer a nursing student at Brookhaven College. I had my Pinning Ceremony and Graduation last night. WooHoo!! I am so excited. It feels so official. Congrats to all the new nursing students. Always remember that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and you will get there faster than you think.
  6. Thank you for the Congrats and the compliment. The med packs contain items like 4x4 guaze, alcohol wipes, sterile qtips, and other supplies needed to practice your skills that you learn during 1st semester. The only thing extra I would buy is a penlight for doing neuro assessments and good drug guide. As you go along you may find other things you want to buy. You do not need to buy a bp cuff as one is provided at the school unless you want to use it to practice at home. As for the book package, I and most of the other students in my class thought it was a waste of money. I never used the online books. The package is about $700 and you still have to buy the Foundations book seperately and that book is about 100. You are going to find out a lot of this information at Success Camp. The scrubs are embroided with the logo, your name, and Student Nurse. It is hard for me to tell you to relax because I remember being the same way you are now. As for the OWL try the bookstore and see what they have. LOL!! LOL!! Let me know if you have anymore questions.
  7. You guys are very welcome. Good luck to all of you guys. Once your in the time will fly by. I just went and bought my dress for the Pinning Ceremony that is on Thursday. I still can't believe that I am done. I am always here if you have questions.
  8. My best advise is always remember that you can do this. There will be times that you will question if you chose the right profession, but that will pass because your confidence will keep building the furthur you get along. You will get a list of chapters to read before you start. Just review those chapters and you should be good. You will also get access to case studies. I recommend using those and NCLEX style questions to help you study for your test. As for working, that all depends on you and the type of person you are. Some people work full time while others didn't work. I worked part time in the beginning and then stopped in during third semester. As for work and the job market, it is hard out there. Use every clinical as a job interview. Always talk and get to know your nurses and nurse managers. There are some people still without jobs while some of us do have them. I was able to obtain a job a MCP. Let me know if you have any other questions. Good Luck!!
  9. Thank you, Most instructors want a mostly white shoe. Some it does not matter. I would suggest just to get a white shoe so that way it makes everyone happy and you do not have to buy multiple pairs of shoes. Make sure they are comfortable because your feet will hurt. Good luck with the program.
  10. Congrats Hobbits for getting in to the program. I have just finished the Brookhaven program and will be graduating May 12. I just wanted to let you know that I have some of the books that you will need for the program. Just PM me if you want to know about them. Let me know if you have any questions about the program and I will be happy to let you know. I am here for anybody who may have questions about the Brookhaven Nursing Progam.
  11. I too would like information on what to expect working on a Neuro floor. I just accepted a position on a Neuro PCU floor. Anybody experience on a PCU floor. I am so excited to start working. I have just finished nursing school and this will be my first job.
  12. Good luck to everyone that had interviews. I wish everyone the best of luck on finding a job. If anyone needs the recruiters name and numbers at Parkland, just let me know by private message. OXB7393, you can usually call and talk to someone in HR and they can get you the information you need at Children's.
  13. Thank you everyone for all the information on the GN positions in the area. I have just accepted a position at Medical Center of Plano on thier Neuro PCU floor. I am so excited:w00t:
  14. Hi, I have applied to all GN positions in the DFW area. I received rejection letters for all of Baylor's GN positions. I did get an interview at Parkland for their ER residency. I am crossing my fingers on that one. Does anyone know about the other hospital's in the DFW area?
