Hello everyone!! I have been doing my support courses for the last year and a half and I'm going to apply for the nursing program at Brookhaven this month. Though I'm not really stressing about it I am a little worried. This is my 3rd attempt at college and the first 2 times I did horrible!! Since I made the choice to go to nursing school in Summer of 2009, I've brought my GPA up from 1.76 to 3.0. And, all my grades in my support classes have been A's and B's except 1, Nursing Pathophysiology. I made a C in that class and it would have been a B if I had not made one mistake at the end of the course. So, my question is does anyone think that C in that class will hinder me much? If anyone can offer any insight it would be great. Thanks!!
I took Patho at Brookhaven and at el centro...El Centro's is 3 credit hours and what UTA requires so that was why I had to retake it after taking Brookhaven's! If you are planning on transferring it then Brookhaven's will not work but El Centro will.
I just joined allnurses today I'm excited! I've been reading y'alls comments forever and never got around to joining! I'm Heather by the way! Brookhaven Fall 2011 unless I get an acceptance letter from UTA! :)
I think El Centro has two different Patho's... An HPRS class and an RNSG class. I think one is 2 hours and the other is 3... Brookhaven takes either one but UTA needs the 3 hour class. Oh well, UTA's prerequisites would be a little trickier for me to get done by the application deadline, so I think I'm just gonna go the Brookhaven route and then apply to UTA and Baylor if I don't get into Brookhaven. Congrats on your acceptance Heather!! I'm hoping for Spring 2012 :)
Congratulations Heather (hmarie) and welcome to our forum… What I have decided to do is to get my associates degree at Brookhaven and bridge over to BSN through Texas Tech, they accept all of Brookhaven’s courses. If I decide to take four more classes this summer, I will complete all prerequisites required to apply to Texas Tech. Once again congratulations to you.
Thanks! I'm so excited! Good luck to you SugarMagnolia! Have you been to see the advisors at UTA? If not I would definitely recommend if you wanna apply there. You are right El Centro does have two I took the RNSG one and it transfers. It was the only one that I had to take over though Pharm transfered from Brookhaven. Wherever you go it's a start and if you want to go further you can make it!! Lupe are you the same Lupe from our FB page? I bet so! haha I was planning on doing the same thing...Brookhaven then bridge with UTA but then I noticed I only needed a few more hours at UTA to get my BSN than I needed at Brookhaven for my ADN. So I took a shot at it and applied if I don't get in then oh well it wasn't mean to be and I'll be doing their bridge program later. I've heard Tech's programs are really awesome! Are you planning on moving or do they offer online bridge? Congrats to you for your acceptance as well!! It's such a relief to finally get accepted and know that all of our hard work has paid off!! Haha Now the real hard work starts!!! Here we come!!
I took the CPR class last fall since I was preparing for attending nursing school in the spring if I got lucky (I still had 5 pre-reqs being taken in the fall but wanted to try anyways). The class did not last anywhere near the length listed.
You may want to check but I have just completed the program at Brookhaven and we had to have a new BLS certification each year, regardless of it actually not expiring for two years.
like a few of you I am rather close to my BSN already due to previous college work. However, I am just gonna get through Brookhaven's program and then bridge even though it will take a bit more time. No other college is close enough to where I live and getting into Brookhaven's program wasn't bad at all. Not to mention the difference in costs going from a community college to a four year institution. The possibility of having no loans when I get my degree = happy dance.
Thank you Heather (hmarie), Texas Tech has an online course. You do have to be working in a hospital to do your clinicals. Brookhaven College and Texas Tech collaborate, if you look in Brookhaven’s nursing program website in the beginning and right under contacts has an agreement with them. I do not know if I am the same Lupe in fb…you just have to join our “Brookhaven RN Program Grad: Dec 2012” and find out hehehe:lol2:

Same here! Later after getting your RN, you can look into RN-MSN programs, rather than BSN (if that is the route you want to take). There are a few in Texas. I want to say that UTMB has an RN-MSN program. Your bachelor's degree can be in anything.

I am 6' 6" or there abouts. If those pants are a long 34 they might work. Most likely I will need a 35" inseem.
