  1. The first eight weeks is pretty much mon-Friday with weekends off. Then you start clinical one day a week and will need a preclinical paperwork day. If your work is in the evenings then it could be fine. You'll need plenty of time to study too. Your schedule will be so busy that you can only concentrate on a few days at a time. I've worked part time/24 hours since the beginning. Looking back I don't see how I was able to do it the first semester. Each semester brings less hours requirement. I would say your schedule will really open up the third semester. Then by the final semester, you'll be down to one clinical day and one lecture day.
  2. I'm a third semester student at Brookhaven. My suggestion for you is to relax this summer! Once you start the program, it will be a whirlwind until Xmas break. I would highly suggest buying and using the Saunders NCLEX review book and the Review and Rationale book series (fundamentals, psych, med surg, ob, pedi, etc.). Once in the program, you will need to learn how to test the nursing way. All the answers may be right on the question, you will need to select the most correct answer or what you would do first. I would also suggest the most current version of the care plan book. Prior versions are difficult and not correct. My advice is for you to be flexible, know there will be last minute changes and go with it. The book pack you purchase will not have the fundamentals book, ob, pedi, and med surg case study book included. Good Luck!
  3. I have a previous bachelor's degree and am currently in the Bhaven program. I'm ineligible for financial aid because of my prior degree. I simply pay out of pocket for all my school expenses. I haven't investigated the private loans available to me. Its my backup plan for spring semester if needed.
  4. RN2B0511, Give us your best advice for succeeding in nursing school? Did you prep before your first semester? Or just relax? Did you work and how many hours during school? Where did you find a job? How is the job market for others in your class?
  5. Would someone message me the group name?
  6. Does anyone have a patho book they like? I took patho thru ELC and didn't like the book so I sold it back. I want to buy one this summer. Anyone know which book Brookhaven uses?
  7. I prefer Urbane or Dickies scrubs. Go to a scrubs store and try on as many as possible. You'll figure out which ones you like or not. Some of the scrubs are like sandpaper they are so rough. I like the softer ones and usually wear a tshirt underneath. Get some with either pants pockets or two pockets on the top. I usually keep my personal stuff in one pocket (cell, to do list etc.) and keep the other pocket for work stuff (floor keys, pen, spectra phone, etc). I try to buy mine during the tax free weekend in August. Most scrub stores run a sale along with no tax. Last year I was able to save quite a bit for two sets of scrubs.
  8. Where did you have clinicals for the first semester?
  9. I'm in!!! Third time was the charm. I can't wait to meet everyone. I currently work full time as a PCT at a hospital and will continue through nursing school. I will probably drop to part time next spring. Wooooohooo! I'm so excited.
  10. Brookhaven approved a course sub for me for the ELC Patho . :)
  11. Does anyone know how many alternates they usually take?
  12. El Centro offers an online patho class. I took it last fall. I'm not sure if they offer it in the summer.
  13. Do you know how many are usually on the waitlist?
  14. Mjones921, How many points did you have?
  15. I can attend the mandatory orientation on May 6th or forfeit my spot. I emailed to find out where I'm at on the list and likelihood of getting in.
