Brookhaven Fall 2010 students

Published

Hi all! I thought I would start a new thread for all the people who got in Brookhaven's Fall 2010 program. I figured the people who did not get in would not want to see our posts anymore.

I did want to let you all know that I asked my friend that is first semester at Brookhaven, and she said that the scrubs they wear for clinical rounds are hunter green. They have to be embroidered on the back "brookhaven college" and the front has to have your name. Apparently there is a special order form that will be sent to us by ***. She suggests that you get 2 pairs when *** sends the order form, becasue she only got one, and she is now ordering an extra pair. She also said that she bought some other scrubs (all different colors) to wear when she is at school, because it is easier to work in. *** will e-mail us about all this but thought I would clue you in on what I know.

Anyone else got any news? LOL

Can't wait to meet you all (if I have not already):D

Ames - I went to the Allen outlet since it is close to my house, there is a store there called uniform destination. I compared the prices after I bought them (I know real smart of me) and they really were not discounted. The people who work there are also REALLY unfriendly. I have not had them embriored yet becasue A** has to send us the instruction e-mail, which she said last week she had typed up. I assume(hope) she will send it out this week???? :D

Natalie - I applied with a 3.79 GPA 38.96 points and all support classes done. ;) Good luck on the beginning of your adventure!!

Natalie,

I had a 3.71 GPA with all support classes done, I applied with 33.58 points.

Hi everyone, I bought all the books individually online (Half.com & Amazon.com) for $300. I didn't buy the Study guide for the Foundations book yet because I wanted to hear back from Mrs. ***** to see if we really need it...but that should only be an additional $25. I also bought a 2010 Drug Guide since I heard we will need some type of drug guide for reference. Just wanted to let everyone know about the costs if bought individually. I also posted this on our FB page. =)

Hi everyone! I went to EmbroidMe today to order scrubs, and they don't have them in yet. They said they were ordering them today, and would have samples in next week. So if you are planning on going, wait til next week! Plus, I picked out a stethoscope that I liked from their catalog and they are going to get back to me with pricing. I chose a Littman that has a 2 sided chestpiece, because they are supposed to be more sensitive. Unless EmbroidMe can beat the online pricing, I am going to order from MediSave directly, and they do free engraving! That is just my :twocents: for what it's worth!

I stopped in and talked with A** today to check on the book editions needed for classes, and she said that to the best of her knowledge they will be using the same editions for us that the classes are using now. She said they just recently switched editions, so they probably won't be changing again this semester. She did mention that the Foundations book was very important, and that they will give us instructions in Success Camp as to which chapters we need to have read by day 1 for the Nursing Program!!!

Hey Ames214~~did you hear from Professor R**** yet about the Study Guide?

No I haven't heard anything yet. I will surely update when I do. No worries =)

Update from EmbroidMe~~the stethoscope will be $99.99 from them, w/o engraving. So, I ordered from Medisave and total was $82.06 which included shipping and engraving. Just FYI! They include up to 25 characters on the engraving, plus you can have symbols added. It should be delivered by July 13th.

Update: Yes we will need to get the study guide for the Foundations book.

Wow, $100 for a stethoscope...so expensive. I found one for $50 on ebay. It's the Littmann 3M Select...sold at EmbroidMe for $59. No engraving though.

Hi Sarah!

I guess it depends on how comfortable you are. I personally took A&P 1 by itself, and glad that I did because I felt like I really had the opportunity to absorb it all...ya know? Also the points required to get in at Brookhaven Nursing have risen a lot in the past few semesters, so it is really competitive and making A's would definitely be better for your chances. Then A&P 2 I took with another class, and it was definitely more challenging. Also Chemistry was really the hardest subject for me out of ALL of the Pre-reqs and support courses!!! I hated it in high school and I felt the same way in college. ;)

HTH!!
