boyfriends biopsy

Published

Hi all. My boyfriend is having surgery today. We found a lump in his thigh last Tues. He has been very sick (temp. of 102+ every night, vomiting, weakness, fatigue, weight loss 30+lbs) since October. No one has been able to diagnose anything. Before all this he was a very healthy 25 y/o former college football player. I am so scared and don't want it to show because he has been doing so well at staying positive..........:scrying:

EMTI19, so glad to hear your boyfriend is home, and recovering so nicely. When my dad was diagnosed with cancer, research on the internet helped us with questions we hadn't even thought of asking, but until you see the oncologist, you just really don't know what applies to him. (The scenario we had all built up in our heads was so much different than the information the oncologist actually gave us.)

Take a notepad with you. You'll hear lots of information, but it will get jumbled by the time you leave the office. Taking notes helps keep it all straight.

My prayers are with you both. Please let us know how you guys are doing.

He came home on the 7th. and went back to have all 60 staples removed on the 17th. The official diagnosis is synovial sarcoma. He has to go back tomorrow to see an oncologist about possible radiation treatments. He is walking without any assistance and his incision is healing nicely. He is eating well without vomiting and the fevers are gone! He has gained back 10lbs. I am so proud of him for being such a good pt and following all orders so that he can be healthy again.

I am not familiar with synovial sarcoma and while trying to look it up I became a little frustrated. Most information was either not as detailed as I wanted or intended for doctors and researchers. Some articles showed a 5 year (is it success rate or life expectancy?) of less than 50%. Very depressing, but of course I didn't share this information with my boyfriend.

Any ideas of where to look for some good information? I just like to be educated, especially when it comes time to ask the doctor questions.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts, prayers, and feedback! >quote> Some links for you........... ..............http://cis.nci.nih.gov/fact/6_1.htm http://www.emedicine.com/radio/byname/synovial-sarcoma.htm

http://www.salick.com/ http://www.cancerlinks.com/sarcoma.html -much good info here.......... I did home care with a young man that died at 28 from soft tissue sarcoma...We got to be close friends despite our age difference.I was with him the last time he went to the cancer center and was told there was nothing more that could be done for him.He told me that he would not have traded his life for anyone's because if he had not gotten sick he would not have had his last few years in which he got really close with his sisters and mom...He was active in a local cancer support organization and he also did some traveling and really got to do some things that he wanted to after his initial treatments...Sadly he suffered many complications throughout his 2 yr illness -he had a rough journey. towards the end he had a chance to give his things away and write long letters to his friends and family. When he was no longer able to hold the pen we did it for him.He even made cards for the first year of birthdays he would miss.He died in his home with his beloved dog lying beside him.. ....He was the bravest and most selfless person I have ever known and he lived those last years with such grace and dignity....I'll never forget how grateful he was for the time he was given. That's the lesson I learned from him and I want to share it with you..........................I am sorry to hear your news-Please continue to seek support here on the board when you can...

thinking of you both today......hope things are going well.

I haven't posted in what feels like a long time. While reading back through all of your replies, tears came to my eyes. It is so comforting knowing all of you are praying. I haven't realized what a long ordeal this has been, almost 6 months now. My boyfriend is now in his second round of chemo and is doing wonderfully. I cried when his hair fell out even though I knew it was a possibility. I just can't wait for this to be over. It has been very hard to stay strong for him. Luckily we have many family and friends that are strong for us. I myself was recently diagnosed with hypertension. Go figure! :) I am trying to work on my stress levels, diet, and exercise, and am taking Lisinopril. Hopefully I can manage to get myself healthy again and be taken off the med. I am sorry that I haven't written in a while and will try to check in more often. I almost forgot another important announcement:

I was accepted into my nursing program and start in Aug.!!!
