Its okay, spill and let it all out!!
I have just few that really irke me.
1) The all hateful malicious gossipers. Gotta love them!
2) Not being able to find a place to sit and chart because people are unwilling to get up because they are in the middle of gossiping and talking about others. (Come on people! I just want to chart and get out of here!)
3) Drowning with a very heavy team and glancing over at staff members who have time to read books, play on the computer, and of course gossip! LOL.
4) Drug seekers. Yes, I love them. They just make my day. "No, I can't give 5 hydrocodones at once." "I understand that's how you take them at home, but it's not ordered here that way." " What?" "You are allergic to Motrin, Tylenol, Tramadol, and ASA?" "Oh....I see, Morphine works the best for you." Yes, people, I love spending the majority of my shift dealing with junkies. Because I just have all this extra time on my hands!
5) And of course, the constipated pt who's been here for 6 days, hasn't pooped in 6 days, but, all of sudden, you want me to fix it? Sure! no problem!
6) And my favorite! The doc who yells at you for calling him/her concerning their pt who may be starting to go down the tubes. "Yes, I know it's late." "Why am I bothering you?" "Ummmm, I don't know, probably because this pt helps pay for that new Porsch you park outside the hospital everyday?" "Thanks for the help, pal."
Sorry......rough last couple of days at work. I really feel better now.
Family members telling you how to do your job. Complaining when you taking great care of their family member. Also, rooms you cannot move in because of soooo many visitors. Family hovering over everything you do.
Gossip.
Rudeness. "Rudeness is the weak man's imitation of strength."
Messy rooms. Dirty patients. Dirty linens. Dirty everything...
Walking into a room at beginning of shift and finding an empty IV fluid bag.
Staff to pt ratios are dangerous/unsafe at times.
Suck-ups. Those "perfect" staff members who do no wrong, suck up to management. A person I worked with would do extracurricular activities, such as making signs for the floor, posters with info on it, etc...
What else? Hmmm....
Going outside to do drugs/sell drugs/trade drugs/smoke a cig by wandering down the busy urban street near us and having security call me when you're at the end of the block, pushing your IV pole..and I'm chasing you down..panting..and you say "I got lost" and then promptly make yourself vomit when we get back to the room and want sympathy. Don't waste my D#MN time!!
Claiming your IV is so painful, but won't let me change the site.
Demanding that your XBOX360/Wii is so important, you must have it ON now at 730am, I have to call a maintenance person to fix your flat screen TV NOW. Nevermind I actually have sick people to care for.
Doc who pulled the JP drain on my pt that soaked 6 ABD pads today. Hello? Why?
Asking me to sponge bathe you. Why isn't a young pretty "thing" like you married? Ewww.
Doc that put in order "Pt may shower with close supervision" on my pt with multiple IV's, foley, epidural. Umm? NO!
No one properly flushing PICC's so they get clotted. Hep locked does not mean NOT flushed.
ER admitting a patient who has 40 documented visits in the last 90 days. WHy??
Ahh I feel better now.
1. Nurses that come in and complain about EVERYTHING...can you be any more NEGATIVE??
2. How some people I work with have time for 4 smoke breaks plus breakfast, lunch and dinner break...I'm lucky if I get to pee once during my shift!!
3. Complaints of being sooooooo tired and having a headache after they have taken a breakfast break and a lunch break and I haven't stopped since report!!
4. Sitting around the nurse's station gossiping....again, I run my butt off so it makes me upset when I see someone else sitting down!!
5. Doctors being jerks when you call them for orders.....if they would've written them in the first place you wouldn't have to call them!!
6. Family members ..... complaining about the way you care for their relative....when you know you have given them the best care possible!!
7. Patients being rude/mean to you when you've done nothing but bend over backwards to care for them.
8. Drug seekers
9. Not having enough time to prepare for report so I don't look like an idiot.
10. Tattle tales
The nurse who thinks she all high and mighty; thinks she's the best nurse on the floor. When I fail to do something before shift change, I get griped out, but when she fails to do something, oh, its no big deal; the (same) nurse that lets someone go a whole shift without peeing after the foley was taken out 12 hours ago. Please, these type of nurses need to go, they need to get off the floor and let the nurses who want to be there do their jobs without the bad attitude nurse ruining the whole day! One more, why do managers hire burn out nurses, why does she hire tech that won't even show up to work on there first two weeks. Scratches head ???

Being expected to answer the surgeons cell phones while I am circulating-especially when I'm busy giving patient care. While I am happy to take brief CLINICAL messages if there is nothing immediate for me to do, I am not being paid extra to be anyone's personal secretary. To be honest I usually just press the call disconnect button when it rings and pretend I don't know how to answer their cell phone.
Other staff members who come to work sick, cough all over everyone and expect you to show gratitude that they came to work sick. If I had my way they would be disciplined and sent home straight away. I have an immunocompromised sister and I don't want to give her a potentially fatal infection thankyou very much.
