Best way to study in the car

Hey y'all! I have about a 75 mile commute to campus and I'm wondering if any of you have found creative ways to use the time on the road to review material and study. I want to see about buying a digital audio recorder and listening to my lectures.. I'm also wondering if there are any NCLEX audio practice tests or something similar out there on the market (I haven't searched yet).

I'm not to the point of seeing whether there are students in my cohort that I can carpool with to classes/clinicals in order to study while I ride, but I'm considering that option, too.

I drive about two hours to and two hours after school. I record lecture and listen to it. I am sure you could record nclex questions you like and listen to them also. Good luck!!!

I don't have nearly as long a commute as you, but I just use the time to de-stress. I don't know, something's nice about finally getting in a space by yourself that is quiet! I actually enjoy it. :)

I don't have as long a long drive, but I really don't like to do anything in the car. By the time I'm heading home, I'm sick of all things nursing. In the mornings I like to go in fresh :)

You could buy audio books like Reviews and Rationales and listen to them or record lectures?

I recorded myself reading lists of meds or lab values or whatever, then recorded myself asking quiz-like questions with pauses before the answers. It was helpful both in making the recordings and in listening to them on my drive to school.

And I thought my 36 mile commute was long, actually I used to have one that was 50. Record lectures, books on tape, itunesU and pod casts are a really great way pass the time on long drives. Car pooling may save you on gas money, but you won't be able to use the time to study.

I should add that I will have a new baby at home so time management/studying at every opportunity is CRUCIAL.

I used to study in the car by recording myself discussing the points I needed to memorize. It helped to hear it more than once. I like the options above as well

I do a lot of my studying in the car or doing laundry or other housework. I have started recording everything I read outloud. I use iTunes and find podcasts or nursing lectures there too. I've bought some stuff as well. I put things on my phone and then put it in my pocket and can walk around with headphones and get things done and study at the same time. I also put my phone up to the computer and record youtube videos of any clinical skills stuff so I can listen to the steps over and over again. There may be an easier way to do that, but it's working for me so that's what I am doing. I read websites that have useful data and record those outloud as well. I have used text to speech apps for somethings but find I don't understand them as well when it's the computerized text so I tend not to do that any more.

My text book has audio keypoints for each chapter that you can download to a smart phone and listen to on your drive! We have the Mosby textbooks, but I'm sure others have a similar feature.

I only have a 35-40 minute drive to school, but during this time I will often listen to lectures that I have recorded. On an exam or quiz day I will talk out-loud to myself in the car. I will pretend that I am teaching someone else the information, and if I get to a subject that I am unable to explain to my imaginary student, then I look up that info. I do the same thing on days that I have a check-off...I will talk out-loud in the car beginning with what I will say upon entering the patient's room all the way until I'm finished with the patient. Again, if I get to a point where I'm not sure of what to say or do, then I look up that info. This is my method; it works for me.
