Best way to save money when buying Text Books for BSN program?

Published

Hi!

I have been searching all over this site for some help but I cant find what I am looking for....Where do you buy your books for any nursing program??? I am about to start the BSN program at South University in FL 10-3-11 and I was hoping to buy USED books. I couldnt find many! the used books I found were only 5 dollars cheaper than new ones. I went back and forth from Amazon and Barnes and Noble. I don't get any grants and my Financial Aid only covers part of my tuition not all so I was hoping to save some money in books but i didn't have any luck...

I decided to buy most books from Barnes and Noble. I became a member for $25 a year. that will guarantee me to get my books in 1-3 business days. Did I make a good choice?

Where do you buy your Text Books??

Thank you so much in advance!

I bought half from Amazon and half from the bookstore. I'm a bsn student as well. Do you have any friends in the class above you? Sometimes buying or borrowing from them works out nicely.

I have came across this problem myself. The cheapest I have been able to find is between amazon and barnes and noble or once in awhile from half.com Most of my books I also get through Barnes & Noble. Does becoming a member have any other benefits besides that?

I bought half on Amazon and the other half I had to buy in the bookstore because they came in a "special bundle" from the publisher. The books on Amazon were about $10-$20 less than in the college bookstore. I love Barnes and Noble, but Amazon has a version of Amazon Prime designed for students. The student edition is just the same as the regular version, but it's free instead of the $80 yearly fee of the regular version. It includes discounts, free 2 day shipping, etc.

Textbooks are so way overpriced. It's really a rip off. I bought the newest version of one of my nursing books and I already had the previous version, so I thought I would compare the two. Guess what? They were word-for-word exactly the same. It ridiculous!

My textbooks cost more than my tuition.

Good luck and I hope you have a great semester!

Check out Ebay, you may find used or even new books at some great prices.

Specializes in EC, IMU, LTAC.

cheapesttextbooks.com is a comprehensive search. They search both resellers and online stores.

I go into the school store, note the titles, editions, authors, and ISBN (if possible, some cover the bar codes), then search on the website. It's saved me a bundle.

You should of done amazon prime student subscription that is free for a year and you get it in 2 days.... i ended up buy basically all mine new because alot came with cds and stuff that would be very helpful.. and if any thing you can get more when you sell back if you keep in good condition

Amazon has Amazon Prime for students. It's free for a year, then you have to pay $39 a year if you want to continue with it. So worth it.

I google the isbn number then go to google's shopping page. You have to weed through the results to get what you want but you'll be able to see who sells the book the cheapest. I generally end up using Alibris or amazon though.

Try bigwords.com

I buy mine from ebay, half.com, and Amazon.com. If you sign up for Amazon student prime (free btw) you get 2 day shipping for free. Also if you don't need the book, you can return it (sometimes the prof says you don't need that book).

I buy mine from Barnes and Noble. I use my discover card to buy them so I get 10% back (right now they are offering 15% back) and its free shipping if you are a member. I buy new books because I dont like lots of highlighting in the books and I have found that buying from Barnes and Noble with using the discover card is usually cheaper than the school bookstore and sometimes even amazon.
