  1. wow! I just want to thank everyone for all the information. there are a lot of websites I need to consider. thank you so much. I really felt lost when it came to buying my books. I also think at the end you gotta do what works best for you. renting, buying new or used books....so much to think about!
  2. thank you for the information! I did not think of checking craigslist ...you'll never know what you can find there :)
  3. Yes I think they send you coupons too but I havent gotten any yet...
  4. I just wanted to update everyone about my school journey...WELL, I am done with my prereqs. I transfer to South University from PBCC. I did most of my prereqs at South U. I never stop and didnt take any semesters off. I AM HAPPY TO SAY that I finally made it into the BSN program (also at south). First day of class is 10-3-11. It is so rewarding to find this post because this reminds me how hard I worked from fall of 2009 through spring of 2011 to complete all my prereqs. all of my hard work is paying off. I am a nursing student now! I never gave up! and I am still enjoying the ride my girls are now 4 and 5 yrs old. I still have 21 more months of school...I will be back to this post then ahhh the journey keeps on going :)
  5. Hi! I have been searching all over this site for some help but I cant find what I am looking for....Where do you buy your books for any nursing program??? I am about to start the BSN program at South University in FL 10-3-11 and I was hoping to buy USED books. I couldnt find many! the used books I found were only 5 dollars cheaper than new ones. I went back and forth from Amazon and Barnes and Noble. I don't get any grants and my Financial Aid only covers part of my tuition not all so I was hoping to save some money in books but i didn't have any luck... I decided to buy most books from Barnes and Noble. I became a member for $25 a year. that will guarantee me to get my books in 1-3 business days. Did I make a good choice? Where do you buy your Text Books?? Thank you so much in advance!
  6. 1. when is your start date? 10-3-11 2 what state are you in? fl 3 program (lpn, adn, bsn)? bsn 4 what is the one piece of advice you are holding onto right now? study, study and study! my priorities are my kids, husband and school. get on a routine and stick with it. take care of my kids and study as soon as they go to bed. plan a date night with my husband once in a while. and always remember not to beat myself up about things that cannot get done. my life will eventually get back to some semblance of normal, but it will be a new normal. 5. who is your greatest motivation to complete nursing school? my kids, husband and family! and myself. i am 32...i know i can do this!!!
  7. Seriously all I can say is that IT IS NEVER TO LATE TO FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS! I am 32 and I am about to start the BSN program...during my prereqs classes I meet a lot of women in their 40s and 50s that were starting. I say GO FOR IT! SO what if you will be 57 when you are done. There will be a lot of opportunities for you out there. if you dont think you could work over night, what about Home health Care, or travel nurse, or corporate....the possibilities are endless! My advice to you is to ENJOY the moment and ENJOY the ride! Keep us updated! I would love to hear (or read) more about your new journey :)
  8. I am sorry you are feeling that way. NEVER GIVE UP! have you talked to your adviser? and do you have any family around to help you out with your child? Have you thought of taking online classes that you can do from home while you are not working? I did that for a while, actually half of my prereqs were taken online. South University allows you to take online courses that are 5 weeks long, so I took 4 courses per quarter (they don't have semesters) so that meant taking 2 classes at the time every 5 weeks. The courses were very intense because all the work you must learn in 11 weeks you must learn them in 5. BUT that gave me a chance to stay home with my little ones. I studied at night while they went to bed. I am 32 and just got into the nursing program (starts 10-3-11) you are only 28! you are already ahead of me!! At least you know what you want. You just have to keep focus. Call your adviser and see what other choices you have. what about an LPN program? Keep us updated! :)
  9. Hi! everyone! I did ok in the Teas V exam...I could have done better. I didn't use flashcards or other websites. all I did was study from ATI study guide. EVERYTHING ON THE STUDY GUIDE IS ON THE TEST. you just gotta study. there is no easy way out. I was also finishing other 3 prereqs at the same time so that didnt help me BUT I was pleased with the results and I got into the BSB program at South University in FL. If you can afford it, purchase the 2 practice exams (or one) from ATI. They look very similar to the actual exam. It is timed. This is what I really like: Once you are done with the online practice exam, it gives you a report on all the answers you got wrong and the page number to look back in your study guide. You can retake them too. It is great practice! ALSO practice your math! it is really simple (fractions, word problems, conversions) BUT it is very easy to run out of time. that is what happened to me. I took too long - maybe because calculators are not allowed! - I had 6 or 10 minutes left and over 10 questions that still needed to be answered, so I rushed to the end. Science was hard but surprisingly I did really good in it. Good luck! and just PRACTICE, PRACTICE AND PRACTICE. if you are prepared (and if you studied) you will be FINE :)
  10. What drew me to nursing??? first of all, when I had both of my daugthers I had such a wonderful experience at the hospital I delivered them and always thought it will be sooooo wonderful to work doing what they do in labor and delivery, and post partum, and babys....I loved it. but I also never thought I could go to school for so long, now 3.5 years later I decided to just do it! I know I wont get into labor & delivery right away but that will be my goal. then the other plus is that the money is good or just ok (like some nurses say), & the hours are good for me, hopefully I can work three 12 hrs shift at night so that I can be home during the day and go to work while my little ones sleep. I didnt want to get a 9-5 everyday job. I did it for way too long (8 years as a operations manager at a local bank) and hated it! I dont like office work, and I dont like to sell products that people dont really need, im not a sales person anyways. I love babies and children. my other choice would have been kindergarten teacher, but I dont like the hours....also my husband is a firefighter/paramedic so that helps too. I am getting close to the time where my little ones will be going to school (whithin the next 2-3 years) and I dont want to have to get a dead end job for $10 an hr pay, no way!:wink2: Thank you for your advice about online courses! and good luck on the decision you'll make!
