Okay, so what is the best type of watch to get for clinicals that won't accumulate millions of bacteria and is easy to clean?

Thanks!

I have the type that pins onto my scrub top. I was never much of a watch person and never thought about the bacteria part until i read your question, but I don't think my watch gets nearly as contaminated as those you wear around your wrist.

I have a plastic gel type watch that I got from allheart.com. It says 'Nurses Rock' and it has a 24 hr time. I have washed it many times. I would not recommend a leather watch, because your hand will get wet, and they are harder to clean.

CVS has assorted Sharp analog watches with large faces, easy to see second hands and nylon straps for $15-20.

I have used a clip-on watch that I got at Target for $10. I clip it on my stethoscope and have never had any problems with sound/scrapping the scope. You can get them in all designs and I never have to take it off to wach my hands.

I got a "Dickies" (brand) black watch from walmart for ten bucks. Hadn't thought about the bacteria factor until now, but makes me want to get a new watch! (haha)

mine is metal, a Prestige, water proof so I can soap around it. Has military time on it as well. Quick release band so that if I had to fling it off in a situation it was in the way, it can be done with a flick. I Like the all metal, at the end of each shift, I alcohol swab it.

I opted for metal as well. I've been shopping for a new watch but all the waterproof ones look pretty masculine and are really big. I'm guessing my current one is probably as waterproof as it needs to be - it will get wet during handwashing, but I'm not submerging it to 9 feet, like they say you can do!

I frequently "decontaminate" my watch & pen with alcohol swabs.

I think I have the same one! It's a great watch. I mail ordered mine.

I just did a yahoo search for Prestige watch and the ones I found were around $3000! LOL - that's more than more LPN program costs! Surely that's not what you're talking about?

I wear my metal Citizens watch because I'm a stickler for having the date on my watch too. Good luck.
