Best watch for clinicals?

Published

Okay, so what is the best type of watch to get for clinicals that won't accumulate millions of bacteria and is easy to clean?

Thanks!

I just did a yahoo search for Prestige watch and the ones I found were around $3000! LOL - that's more than more LPN program costs! Surely that's not what you're talking about?

whoa nelly, THATS a mark up:uhoh3:

[/url]here is the link to where I got mine

its $35.95 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just got this Swatch and I am really happy with it. It is plastic, extremely lightweight, water resistant, and the battery is easy to change. It does not have a date, but they sell a similar one with the date (which I probably would have bought it I'd seen it in the store).

i'm going to buy one of those watches that is on a lanyard. Then, I can just wear it around my neck & pull it out whenever I need it. Then, I don't have to worry about taking off a watch to wash my hands or having to clean it.

I have several watches that need either a band or a battery so I will be using those I also have one that I can wear around my neck and I was told by a student not to use that one because it was around the neck but I will see what happens

I may have missed it, but I think this thread was designed to identify the best watch for nursing pros. All I see is the nurses own watches...*****

My daughter is entering the "field" and I want to provide the best.

Can anyone stay on subject?

Thank you.

I think several people answered your question...Almost every post tells you what watch that person uses and likes not to metion their is a whole seperate section on nursing gear under nursing section.

I am going into my first year a nursing, do I want an analog or digital watch?

Analog for me so I can watch the hands. I have the same Swatch (in different colors) as linked above.

Dad, You didn't miss anything. Those who answered feel that their watches are the best for clinicals and by describing that they were staying on subject. Buying a nursing watch is personal preference as there are so many on the market. What you get your daughter may not be what she actually wants and what will work best for her. My suggestion to to maybe have her in on the fun of picking out her perfect watch? (just a thought from a mom of 4 adult children) Here are some things for you to think about and some suggestions.

Bacteria...you want something that does not have a bunch of "bling" on it that will harbor bacteria and be hard to clean. Although you see lots of leather strap nursing watches I turned that idea down because I want to be able to clean my watch and with leather that is not possible as leather is permeable. For this reason I chose a "jelly" strap watch that I can clean. It is easier to use analong than digital. (personal opinion here) The watch face is large so I can read it easily. (it's 1.25") It has military time on it....military time is widely used in nursing and having this feature just eliminates my thinking about it. The second hand on mine is red....again personal preference....and I like this as it's easily disinguishable from the minute/hour hands. Some watch faces are easier to read than others....again...personal preference. The brands that are specific for nursing are Prestige Medical, Nurse Mates,Scrub Stuff and I'm sure some I do not remember. There are lots of other watches out there that will work also. The most important thing for a nursing student is to have it be easily readable, second hand, and easily cleaned. Other than that it's all personal preference.

Some prefer a lapel watch. From what I understand these are widely used in the UK but not so much here. The maker of those seems to primarily be Prestige Medical. The watch face is upside down so easy to read by just picking it up or leaning over. Advantage of a lapel watch is obviously the lacking a the bacteria factor of wrist watch. A web seach will easily find them.

Many websites carry nursing watches.... allhearts, scrubsandbeyond and many, many more. I would strongly suggest shopping around as I found about a $5 difference on my watch from site to site. Hope this helps.

I loved the $13 one I got from Target. It had digital seconds and hands, so it was great. It died last week... :saint:
