My mom, BSN for 24 years starting MSN program, made $61/hr at the Med.
I think the average for new graduates is $26-28/hr but otherwise the pay is much higher.
And cost of living is pretty decent, especially with all the surrounding cities.
I live in Southaven,MS and to commute to downtown Memphis takes 15 min from my doorstep to clocking in with morning traffic.
I pay $662/mon rent for 2 bedroom 2 bath. $140 utilities. $13 water.
Living in the city itself is slightly more expensive because of the MLGW bill. They'll fool you with cheap rent but MLGW usually adds $200-$500/month which is why I choose to live in Southaven.
Anyways, that's the info I can provide from my residence.
And yes, an RN is in high demand.
The only difficult place to get hired is Lebonheur or St.Jude..
but the MED, Baptist, Methodist, St. Francis as well as private hospitals are ALWAYS hiring.
Then there are tons of medical office chains like Memphis Neurology who have offices all over mid-south area.
Then there are tons of rehabilitation clinics, etc.
SO.. plenty of job opportunities, decent pay, and lower cost of living.

I have never heard of an experienced BSN prepared RN making $22/hr in Massachusetts. I started out at $27/hr as a new grad 6 years ago. The starting (step 1) salary in the union hospitals in Boston is $30+/hr. The highest step nurses in Boston union hospitals make $60+hr.
I know some of the smaller rural places Like Heywood, Nashoba, Lowell, Saints.....start new grads around $25-28....Maybe $30.00....starting pay has stalled in the burbs.

Yeah that sounds right to me. $22/hr for an experienced RN is what I found unbelievable.

From Emerson to Beverly... a $20.00/hr increase. From Beverly to Nashoba a $20.00/hr cut. Interviewed at the Brigham....amazing pay >$40.00/hr jump....hated the director and thankfully didn't get the job. But I am at the end of the scale and that was about 3 years ago.

I think Texas is good for jobs. In Houston we have a huge medical center and there are always positions available. I just graduated on Dec. 13th and already have an unofficial offer.
I'm in critical care in las Vegas. You'll make about $45 -50/hr with benefits. The st rose system pays the most and they have full-time spots open in the ED right now.
