I have not heard of any states/cities that really have any demand at all for nurses. Here on AN.com, I have occasionally seen posts that mention nursing positions going unfilled in more rural, under-served areas of the country.

Very large health care organizations all across the US are currently in "downsizing" mode - due to many factors. Whenever this occurs, the local market has a surge of highly qualified, experienced nurses looking for jobs. This 'trickle down' effect has the most impact on new grads, but any other less experienced nurses are also affected.
My advice? Look at areas that are experiencing population increases because this drives all social services, including health care.

Esme12, how accurate do you think the median salaries are? I live in Massachusetts and I don't know any nurses who make nearly as much money as stated in the table. Most job postings I have seen in MA have pay rates of $22-28/hour for experienced RN's with a bachelor's degree. The highest I have seen is probably $35/hour and that was for travel nursing.
Most facilites pay very little for BSN differential.....while they want it...they aren't willing to pay for it. Personally I would do travel for $35.00... but I have 35 years critical care experience and at the top of the pay scale/ The market stinks I know you are looking...PM me where have you looked....may be I can give you a few ideas

I have never heard of an experienced BSN prepared RN making $22/hr in Massachusetts. I started out at $27/hr as a new grad 6 years ago. The starting (step 1) salary in the union hospitals in Boston is $30+/hr. The highest step nurses in Boston union hospitals make $60+hr.
