Hi! Just wanted to know- what are the best hospitals in Memphis to work for as an RN?
1. Who pays best and has the best benefits (please let me know about shift, weekend dif., etc).
2. Who has the best patient ratios?
3. How much experience must you have before you can work a weekend program somewhere?
4. How hard is it to get into, let's say, an NICU or CCU as a new grad? Do you know of anyone who has?
I would like answers to these questions because I am in the process of narrowing down potential places to work as a nurse tech or intern while in school. I think it would be nice to start my career out wherever I am a tech or intern if possible, as I will at least already be familiar with the surroundings and 'culture' of the hospital in that case. Thanks!
I worked at St. Francis for about 8 months. I think I started out at $20.80 and then when I left I was up to $21-something/hour plus my night diff & my weekend diff. Before I left I do believe they had started putting holiday pay in your PTO account vs paying you extra for it. I could be wrong, but I think that is where they were headed. When I worked weekend nights, I was making over $30/hour. My patient number was always 7-9 on nights. However, we were short on my floor as I would only have 6-7 on other floors when I floated there. I'd recommend St. Francis to anyone, I just wanted to get closer to home, so I moved to a hospital in my area.
I also believe the St. Francis on Park is the one that may lose their OB department. That was the rumor back when I worked there last year.
does anyone know if there are pay differentials for the different units at various hospitals here in memphis? are there differentials for working in the ER, ICU, OR, etc? someone told me that ER nurses make more than floor nurses. i'm not sure if that is the case or not.
for new grads, no. you have more bargaining with the more experience you have

Baptist Memphis starting pay is 22.65 I think. We have diff for evenings being 4.50 and we have weekend diff. I am night weekender and we make $45/hr day is $40
Baptist has the best retirement...it is 403B and Baptist contributes 2 to 1. If you put in $100, they put in $200. 6 yrs to be vested.
I have worked at Methodist downtown too, and it was fine. I can't remember pay, it has been TOO long.
St Francis used to get quarterly bonuses, not sure if they still do.
St Jude is an awesome place to work if you can hack it. I just can't watch children die.
