Best Lotion for cracked hands?

I will be working in the NICU, so I know my hands will become dry from all the washing. Anyone have some suggestions for great hand lotions?

I like Moisturel and Gloves in a Bottle as they both have dimethicone. The Moisturel takes a little longer to absorb into my skin compared to the Gloves in a Bottle.

I like Eucerin. It just takes a touch, but it's even cleared up my horribly cracked elbows. The best part is that I can use it on my face, and it doesn't make me break out.

I like things simple. Too many bottles of stuff, and I'd end up brushing my teeth with Preparation H or something.

I think I have tried almost all listed at one time or another. Currently I am using Vaseline Deep Moisture Creamy. It is Petro. based, so not at work.

Just an aside. Last time I was fingerprinted it was mentioned that I had worn my fingerprints almost off. He told me it is not uncommon for nurses and others who have to wash frequently or have hands in water a lot. I just could not resist asking him if that meant I was ready for a second career, perhaps burglary? No luck, so I guess I will continue to wear my fingers to the bone and keep changing creams and lotions as a new bottle catches my fancy.

Best of luck. Remember to wash after taking off gloves. Who knows what could be growing there in the warm, moist, dark reaches after those gloves had incubated the bugs for a while.:yeah:

Personally the best thing that I've found is the moisture therapy from avon. It's cheap and nothing beats it in the long cold, dry, michigan winters.

I'm NICU and my hands are rarely dry. There's emollients in the foam we use, though.

When I'm not at work, I use Bath & Body Works True Blue Spa "Look Ma, New Hands". It's very thick and works wonders!

One lotion that we use which is great is called Glove'n Care. Glove'n Care is designed specifically for health-care workers. WIll not compromise disposable glove integrity and works extremly well. We found out about it at the crictical care nurses show and now our unit and a few others at the hospital use it. It works wonders. We get it from our medical distributor but occasionaly I buy it online and send some out for gifts!! The hand cream is highly concentrated, so as the saleswomen said, just use a minimal amount. it will last through multiple hand washings. I use the www.glovencare.com or finesthands.com they run some specials from time and time! enjoy and good luck!:redpinkhe

its lifesaving! hands down, the best moisturizing lotion on the market. its also the only thing i used when i have severely chapped lips (they make this all in one ointment).. its the only thing that brings relief and actually works. try it! :redbeathe

i second this! i work in er and wash my hands a lot. you can't use it while wearing gloves b/c it's petroleum-based, but i put it on at night before i go to bed and wear those cotton gloves made for that purpose. i too, swear by it for chapped lips...

I was about to add the same thing! I'm not a nurse yet, but I am a germ-phobe and wash my hands ALL the time. The true blue spa lotion leaves my hands really soft and lasts a long time

A friend gave me the hand cream from here and it is fabulous! She works with the person who makes these products, she is a NICU nurse there. Many of the docs use her stuff too! It is all natural, okay to use with the gloves and works wonders!

OMG, the best I've ever found is a product called Corn Husker's Lotion. I used it when I worked in preschool (and washed my hands about a thousand times a day!). My hands would get so chapped and dry they would bleed. It's a clear, jelly-like lotion. Non-greasy. Absorbs COMPLETELY. I :redbeathe:redbeathe:redbeathe it!

Absolutely agree! My dad was a bricklayer, & his poor hands would be so dry & cracked from handling mortar, acid, & being exposed to the elements....the only thing that worked was Corn Huskers.....I love it too!:redbeathe

Aquaphilic ointment. Buy at the pharmacy. One tube will last years. Hands down THE best... My Dr. told me about it years ago.
