I am starting in Aug. in an ADN program. I, of course, am very excited and scared to death at the same time. I was wondering which stethoscope you all recommend. I have seen alot about Littman scopes, but a nurse I know said that she couldn't hear as well out of the Littman than some others she has had.
TIA for the input.

I'm a fan of ultrascope. In my opinion, the auscultation is just as clear, if not better, than Littmann cardiology but without the $250 price tag. Mine was $115 and I got to customize the scope & tubing, plus I had it engraved with my name. I love it!

Are there any that increase the volume? I am a bit hard of hearing in one ear.
I have saw some that amplify on www.stethoscopes.com hope that helps.
mixy~ thanks I found the ultrascope on www.rnsupply.com for about $80. It also says they are great for the hearing impaired. I am definitely gonna try it...they are really cute.

my mom sent me an ultrascope for my birthday. I don't know if it is good as I have nothing else to compare it to, but I like the way it looks. She bought me the breast cancer ribbon & the neonatal bell with a cute little stick figure nurse. She also had my name engraved on it. It is one of my all time fav presents! Can't wait to use it!

Ditto except I bought my own. I had another Littman first before I bought this one. I was trying to hear a woman's heart and couldn't. Yes that's right just her heart. I said something to the nurse and she handed me her scope and said "try this". I put it down and bam there it was. Yes this woman was quite obese. Anyway I was floored. A time later something similar happened again. So I bought one.
I got it for about $145 plus $20 for engraving. It arrived 24 hours after ordering and it's wonderful. I figure if I buy it now then I get more use out of it...why wait? It's not like I plan to fail. So why not have something really good now.
So I have the Littman Master Cardiology and I'm really happy with it.
There is a girl who was in my class who had hearing issues and she used the Littman Cardiology III (the one down from the master). Anyway she regretted not just getting the master first.

I have the Littman master cardiology. I love mine. I got it when I started school. I figured it would help me hear better than my cheap $5 ebay one. The sound is great with it and helped me hear sounds I needed to learn better than my cheap one. I got mine on allheart for way less than 200 by finding a coupon online. I also had mine laser engraved, but that wears away pretty fast I have the serial number just in case :)

Just curious...how fast did it wear away for you? I wonder if the different places maybe use a different technique because I've heard some people say the engraving lasted a while. I went with reddingmedical over allheart because of shipping issues they have from time to time. I wonder if there is a difference in procedure or equipment?
