I had a first grader that came in yesterday with a stomach ache that had been bothering her since last night. She told be very matter of factly that it was from cancer and her grandmother told her so - uhhhhhhh... i gently suggested the bathroom with great success. I am a bit worried about grandma and what she is telling the six year old but honestly i think i'm running out of steam to chase that windmill
Not a student complaint but a step mother called me today to ask why I didn't give her step child a bath yesterday?!!!! Where in the job description does it say bathing first grade kids is my responsibility. Major eye roll moment! The teacher was floored when I told her about that call at lunch. 5 more days, just 5 more days!

I really need to know what happened at school that the step-parent felt the child needed a bath? Wow.

I removed a tick from kids arm, cleaned the area and put a band aid on it. It's really an ongoing custody battle between 4 adults that that really need to grow up. They are so intent on making the other parent look bad they don't seem to have time to parent/step parent.

I'm curious about the fact that this mother seems to think school have bathtubs.
At 2:15 (school dismisses at 2:25)
*Student running into my office in a panic*
Kid: Mrs. Sully!!! I need an ice pack!!!!
Me: For....?
Kid: I burned my finger this morning straightening my hair!! (Small red mark only)
Me: So you burned it this morning before school and you are needing an ice pack now because???
I ended up giving her one, simply because she is a helper in my three year old's Sunday School class. And if she puts up with 15 rowdies like him, she deserves an ice pack.

I have actually (thanks to you lovely people) started telling the sweet darlings when ice won't be effective. And I have adopted a three-cube rule for situations like this, where ice is minimally effective but it's better to provide than not.
Besides sweet baby who asked for a massage yesterday.... I am just seeing a lot of tired kids. They come in, no fever, no meds in clinic, don't want to call a parent to bring in meds, don't want ice or heat....so I ask: How best can I help you?"I don't know."
Bless their hearts.
I have had a nice stream of these today. I send notes back saying "refusing all treatment here, so they should be able to survive class"

I know we've had these threads before... but we are getting as restless as the kiddos and we need a laugh.
Share your best "Are you freaking kidding me, Kid?!?!" complaint (from anytime, I just notice they become more off the wall the closer we are to summer or another break)... and let's all remember that another adult (teacher) had to clear these kids to come see us first...)
My two best ones came from the same fifth grade student a couple days apart.
Student: My earlobes feel squishy
Me: ...ok. Did you hurt them in some way?
Student: Nope. Just feel squishy
Me: That's not really an issue. Head back to class.
Student: It feels like all my bones are turning to mush.
Me: Well, you walked in here ok, so I thing they'll be ok.
Student: *(giant eye roll)*
