Best city to work in

Published

Hi, I was just accepted into nursing school and I am really excited, but I am scared because everywhere I look I see hireing freezes. I realize I have two years and anything can happen durring that time but I would like some advice. Where is the best city for a 20 something new grad to obtain employment and work? I currently live in Alabama and am not intrested in working here for various reasons (no offense to fellow Bamians). I really like walkable cities and cities with good public transport, but I can drive if I have to...and then I know I can't be too picky, I'll even look into small towns, I just need suggestions.

Thank you!!

Christchurch, NZ. Plenty of work here :)

Houston, Texas. Tons of hospitals in the medical center, plenty of jobs...

I lived in Chicago for the first half of my nursing career- LOVED it.... totally walkable -excellent public trans, and a TON to do. A great place to be young! Now..... as for the job market- I'm a bit out of the loop. But there are TONS of hospitals.

Good Luck! BTW I think its great you are open to move!

seattle or portland, oregon. maybe not so walkable but great climate and great culture.

Melbourne, Australia - the recession is over, we have ratios, great public transport and lots of walkable greenery...

I would love to move to Melbourne. I spent a month in Australia and love it and want to go back so badly.

Unfortunately, I'd miss my family terribly.

Visiting is always an option :)

Plus we get 6 weeks of paid leave with 17.5% loading) and 15 - 21 days of sick leave (depending on length of service) each year, most of which accrues. Beach, mountains, loads of weather, and with mandated ratios and a shallow recession, there are still a lot of positions...

Christchurch, NZ. Plenty of work here :)

Do they hire NPs in Christchurch? Other parts of NZ?

Specializes in Family Nurse Practitioner.

I like the Baltimore/DC area. Tons of opportunities, still reasonable price-wise in Balto., close to NYC and the beach. :)

Houston, Texas

I have heard a lot of good things about Houston. There are a lot of jobs for nurses and the pay is pretty competitive.
