belly shirts in an interview?

Some people were just never taught properly how to dress for certain situations. I've seen people show up at funerals in work boots and jeans, not even making an attempt to SHOWER beforehand. I know not everyone has the money for dress clothes, but looking presentable doesn't cost much. When I didn't have a lot of money, I found some really nice suits and dress slacks at a thrift sale for less than $5. I think many people just don't care.

It's sad, really.

yea and I'm not talking about people who can't afford nicer clothes. We're pretty flat broke right now, but I was able to find a nice dress shirt and skirt at Target for less than $20. These girls weren't sloppy and their clothes looked new so I am guessing that they could have done better. I don't know, maybe I am just being petty and catty. It has been known to happen.

Agree ... our hospital system had to formally revise its dress code recently to SPELL OUT that it's not acceptable for administrative and other non-uniformed employees/students to be walking around with no socks or stockings. :uhoh3:

That's ridiculous. How unprofessional. Reminds me of a nurse I saw last semester, with globs of mascara on tons of hairspray, and tacky acrylic nails painted bright red. This isn't the 1980s honey. I guess they're just desperate to get whoever they can into the job.

You'd think they'd know better. When I was interviewing for scholarships, I saw more than one group of folks dressed in ripped jeans and t-shirts half hanging out. Go figure. :rolleyes:

Don't worry about it, just means you have a better chance on getting in. LOL, sorry but first impressions do count people, and that is a bad impression for something that is very important. I too have tat's (7 all together, 5 on my back, one on my upper arm, and one that goes around my ankle) and LOVE THEM, (my boyfriend has both arms as sleeve tats and has his back and chest done, so I don't judge people with tats). But I do cover them up when I go on interviews, heck you cant see my tattoo's unless I am wearing a halter top, sandals, etc. But if there were the kinds that everyone could see I would cover them up. Not flaunt them around on an interview.

I try not to judge. i look at people like that and think...maybe they can't afford "interview clothes" and I thank God that I'm able to and I'm greatful to have someone in my life who has taught me the appropriate way to dress. The people that really tick me off are the ones who say " i can't go to the interview because i have nothing to wear". Think about it.

We had to institute a dress policy where I work because we had 2 women in their thirties that were wearing belly shirts. I don't even think that look is attractive on teenagers, let alone supposed "career" women. They complained bitterly, and went to HR to complain that their rights of expression were being stifled. Their rights of expression should stop where the agency's right to have employees who look and act professionally ends, IMO.

I just got back from orientation at school. The director spent several minutes spelling out the dress code to us. They even said "no swimsuits". I would think that's obvious, but maybe not. :chuckle Apparently, they have seen a lot, and don't want to see any more! We can't even pick up an assignment in flip flops! We will be refused. I think I'd beg and borrow to make sure that I was presentable for an interview. It is very important to the people that run my school.
