how do i become a dialysis nurse

A classmate of mine job got hired at a dialysis center in Dallas. They are providing all the training straight out of school. I would just apply at centers. Good luck!

The question is why do you want to be a dialysis nurse especially without any real nursing experience. There are dialysis schools for experienced nurses and tech who assist nurses. Also, you would get paid less in a center than in a hospital. Working in dialysis is scary...you can loose a patient which you are monitoring while a tech is doing most of the work...then what do you do without the nursing knowledge one gains with experience.

Dialysis is some serious nursing work that requires very critical thinking.

How are you going to access a dialysis port when you haven't even done

your share of starting IVs. Just a thought, I wouldn't want to do it, not

until I got some nursing exp.

Many of the freestanding dialysis centers will hire new grad nurses and train them. However, as others have stated previously, these patients can crash in a split second.

I live just west of Houston, TX. I have been an RN since 1996, working in L&D, Postpartum and Nursery.

Since I don't have the required "one year of experience", I have been turned down for every dialysis job I've applied for, and this includes Davita, who claims to hire even new grads.

It appears to me that nurses in dialysis got into it because they knew someone.

If nurses are in such demand, then why not waive that required one year of experience? It doesn't make sense to me.

i dont work in dialysis but 2 of my patients have crashed and died during dialysis in the last month....i thought you had to have icu experience but maybe wrong on that.....

Due to the economic situation in this country, nurses are not in demand today in the same manner that they were five years ago. There is absolutely no nursing shortage. Since there are so many nurses flooding local job markets across the U.S., employers can pick and choose who they want to hire.
