UTA Fall 2015 NP acceptance

No I was not able to register. I thought I had it worked out, but did not. My advisor is on vacation but she assured me it would be her priority when she gets back. AND... I just got an email from someone saying one of the classes I am having evaluated for transfer is not on my transcript... which is impossible because I am sitting here looking at it. So..... I don't know. I am sooooo glad you got everything taken care of and got to register!!! Here's hoping a miracle will happen and I will get registered and be able to get books before the first day of class!

I emailed my director when I was trying to find out the process for having my courses evaluated. She responded quickly and did not seem bothered at all. I would absolutely email your director and politely ask for guidance on how to proceed with the process and registration. We are, after all, paying for this education and being able to register is a pretty important part of the process!! You have every right to advocate for yourself!

    UTA Fall 2015 NP acceptance

I just wanted to add that the advisor has been very helpful and responsive in trying to work with me on this situation. She has been very prompt in answering my emails. I know it isn't her fault that the process is so slow. I don't want to discourage anyone from applying to this school as I believe the program is a good one. However, I do think the idea that you can't get an answer to your transfer courses until after registration is ridiculous. Especially if one of the classes is a pre-requisite to all other classes. I think the process has been even further delayed because it is the summer and not everyone involved in the process is readily accessible. At any rate, I have figured out a schedule that will work for me without knowing the outcome of the transfer classes. If you are applying and have transfer classes.....communicate early on with the school and see if you can get the process started ASAP!

    UTA Fall 2015 NP acceptance

Yes. I am in the same situation. Except I only submitted my classes for review 3 weeks ago because I was told you could not submit them until you were accepted into the program. The math they gave me indicates I won't know if my classes have been accepted until after the semester has already started! That makes no sense to me. I have emailed the advisor again and asked what my options are. She mentioned something at orientation about pushing back starting the program for another semester. But I am not willing to do that. AND... I am not willing to just sit here and wait until the day before school starts to see if they accepted my classes. I would like to get registered so I can plan my life....not sure what to do either.

Did they tell you today at orientation that it would take 2-3 months to evaluate transfer courses for credit? The handout said 2-3 weeks, but the advisor that I spoke with said realistically, it is 2-3 months. I was just wondering what you were told.

    UTA Fall 2015 NP acceptance

I am having some classes evaluated for transfer and in some correspondence regarding the process for this the Director of my program said "You will be coming to campus for orientation and we will work on a degree plan for you that we will share with you on that day". I think we will receive our anticipated schedule on the 22nd.

    UTA Fall 2015 NP acceptance

I am still not able to set up my email either. I talked to the IT on Friday and he said it is usually 48 hours after acceptance before you can get into the system and set it up. But it was a Friday afternoon, so it may take a little longer since it was the weekend.

Congratulations!! The fall class document they sent is confusing. I wonder if we will hear from an advisor to tell us which classes we need to take. Or maybe they will tell us at the mandatory orientation. I live 1.5 hours away as well. I haven't even seen the degree plan. Is it on their website?

Can you have a life AND do HH?

Thanks for all the input. I am still working at the same HH agency, but definitely looking to get out. I have had a talk with my clinical director and branch manager and was basically told "this is the way of home health". All of the RNs have to document during off hours in order to keep up. I just don't accept that I am expected to work 12 hours a day and get paid for 8. Nor do I accept that I am expected to work on weekends for free. I agree that nurses need to stop overdoing. We just accept the massive responsibility and work load that is dumped onto us. So.... I am going to move on. I really love the patients, but I need my life back.

Can you have a life AND do HH?

I am a previous hospital nurse who has been doing home health for about 2 months. So far it has been a nightmare! I am charting every night after I finish seeing patients and most of the weekend. We do computer charting which I am thankful for... but even so, it takes so much time! I am salary and it is a decent salary... unless you are working 12 hours Monday through Friday and all weekend. I have gotten faster since I started, but I just don't see how it is possible to see patients and get charting completed in a 40 hour week. As an RN I am primarily doing admissions, recerts, and ROCs all of which take some time at the patients home AND even more time charting. I am computer savvy and I type fast...so I don't know. They are always pushing you to stay caught up with your documentation and the only way I can do this is to document ALL THE TIME. Is this just the nature of home health? I love the patients and I love the teaching aspect of the job. But I hate the endless hours. I also dislike the constantly changing schedule. I will think I have my day planned and then I will get a call that a someone has been added to my schedule. Is this the way HH is...... or it is just me... or the agency? Any thoughts are appreciated.

    HELP! PMHNP vs. LCSW

I was a licensed social worker for 13 years before going back to school in 09 to get my BSN. I am now in a FNP program. I would never get my masters in social work because the pay is so low. There is absolutly no return on that investment. I don't know what area you are from, but in my part of Texas the PMHNPs are definitely involved in the therapeutic intervetions. In our mental health hospitals, the PMHNP leads the group therapy sessions. You are right in that it is very frustrating working with clients when you are not hte prescriber. There are many times when you will not agree with the medication regimen of a client for one reason or another. The market for LCSWs is pretty much non-existant here and the pay is horrible. My advice......PMHNP.

    IM Injections

Situation: IM Phenergan injection in the deltoid of obese patient resulting in an immediate, small localized knot at injection site. I don't know the specifics of the needle size and method used. Question: What causes this? Is it just something that just happens sometimes or is it an operator error? I was thinking maybe it ended up being SQ because the pt was obese and the needle was too short. Or maybe it was pushed too quickly? Any input is greatly appreciated. I am a relatively new nurse. I had a patient ask me about this and besides not having an answer........ I of course became paranoid that I may do the same thing.

How do you apply for a Florida nursing license?

You don't need to pay anyone to do this. Just go to the Florida Board of Nurisng website and follow the instructions. The information for the medication error ceu's is on the website as well as how to get the finger prints. You will most likely have to go to your local police department to do the fingerprints. You can order the cards for fingerprinting from the Fl BON website.
