Every company I have worked for since becoming an RN has made few to zero effort(s) to make their employees feel valued. I only have 5 years experience. Is this really what I have to look forward to for the rest of my 40+ year career? Are there any companies out there that still maintain their integrity? All I can say is thank God for outstanding coworkers.

I feel valued every time I get paid. I require no validation beyond that.
It's a bit disparaging when the chiefs of any particular company are making million dollar salaries with quarter million dollar bonuses, and there will never be any vacancies within upper management. When they continue to make promises they can't keep and betray their employees' trust, employees take a hit to their self-worth, and performance declines.
If the bad (all that stuff) starts to outweigh the good (paycheck!), it's time to look for a new job.

Absolutely not. My present supervisor is a good one and probably values me, but my employer as a whole absolutely does not. If an employee does something wrong, my agency will do everything in its power to protect itself and punish the employee. I recently had a friend who was randomly assaulted by a patient and after 5 months learned he had a torn rotator cuff. His management has been doing everything in its power to try to deny that this is a work comp injury and insists it is somehow his fault.

I felt valued by one of my previous employers - until I went into management and discovered that they valued the opinion of the administrator who they put above me more (She had never worked a single day in healthcare and refused to walk with me for a day to get an idea of the job). Well - what can I say? I could not agree to her "idea" of productivity without considering quality , minimum standards, and humanity. So I left - but until that day I did feel valued.
My current employer truly values nurses. I am very happy with my job. Not that it is perfect - of course there is this and that plus as a community hospital we do not have the resources that other places may have. But it is not punitive, leadership asks for input, listens - and now it comes - actually does something that would be considered "the right thing to do".

I quite suspect that you would find that most employers in other lines of work are just as negligent when it comes to valuing the rank and file employees of their respective organizations. Nothing new in this observation.

Some have and some don't but as I think back I'm not sure that corresponded completely with my overall job satisfaction. Its nice but not required for me. As for what CEOs make I liken it to rock stars, pro sports figures, movie stars so distorted and rare in the percentage of the actual working population, extreme outliers, that I don't even have their salaries on my radar. You are correct that at least in my experience great co-workers are largely what makes a great workplace.

Yes, I do. I've been treated well by my current employer of almost 20 years. I have excellent relationships with both my boss and her boss. And the CEO seems like a decent guy.
In fact, if I am perfectly honest with myself ... I am probably paid a bit more than I am worth to the organization.

depends on the day lol! sometimes I think any warm body will be valued as much as my warm body, and sometimes I see that little shining breakthrough that tells me that TPTB know I am worth every cent I'm paid and probably more. Different day, different deal.

I felt more valued when I worked in the hospital system. However when you work for the Department of Corrections, they care more about the inmates safety and wellbeing than they do for staff.
