BCIT January/April 2019 Intake Discussion

Hey everyone, I know the BCIT January 2019 admission deadline is still a ways to go but I just wanted to know how many people are planning to apply, and also exchange some advice and questions with each other.

First off, I'd like to show you what I am applying with:

Highschool reqs

Precalc 12 - 99

CHEM 11 - 86

UNI reqs (UBC)

ENG112 - 74 (B)

PSYC101 - 72 (B)

CPSC - 86 (A)

STAT - 82 (A-)

A&P1 - TBD

A&P2 - TBD

I'm taking A&P in the Summer

experiences

- senior home (occupational therapy) volunteer

- first aid volunteer

- pharmacy assistant volunteer

Here are my questions:

Does BCIT determine your GPA based on your own university's grading scale? Or their own? And also, I'm not too sure about how to calculate GPA, since there are so many different scales online. Can anyone provide an accurate estimate of my GPA?

Does number of hours you've volunteered matter? Or do they consider it by months? Because I don't see a box where you input how many hours in the form.

How strong does my application look so far, and any advice?

Hi jaem,

What do you mean by the change in A&P courses? According to the website, it needs to be done within the past 3 years, has that changed? Just want to make sure I'm not missing anything!

Oh, sorry to worry you but no, that hasn't changed! Starting for 2018 intakes, BCIT stated that any of the A&P courses must have been completed from the Fall 2014 semester onwards. So, it's pretty much the same as the 3 years time limit they had but I know a couple of people who couldn't apply by this August 31st deadline because of that change.

Hey everyone, I just submitted my application for the January intake!

High School:

Chemistry 11 - A

Pre-calculus 12 - A

Douglas College:

Engl 1130 - B-

Biol 1103 - A

Biol 1203 - A

Psyc 1100 - A-

Electives: Crim 1100 & Math 1160 - A+

I applied with 58 credits. My pre-req GPA is 3.83 and my cGPA is 3.82. I have health-care work experience as a caregiver with Nurse Next Door and 3 years of experience as a team-leader at McDonald's. I also have volunteering experience in athletic leadership and 200+ hours at a senior's retirement home. The only thing I wish I could add to my application are the LIBS 7001 & 7021 courses, but I'm taking them this fall instead. Good luck to everyone applying!

Hey,

I have seen two different cut offs for applications for April one is August 31st and one September 30th does anyone know of the correct date?

Thanks

I'm not sure if you saw that recently.. but on the BCIT Nursing program entry page both January/April intakes are open from May 1st to August 31st!

This is where I found the information.

Just confused on which one to follow as the extra month would really help.

Hey guys! For the application it requires percentages but online and transcripts only gave letter grades so how did you guys figure out percentage grades??

Hope to see you guys in January!

You can always ask an academic advisor for confirmation but I recommend following the requirements directly from the BCIT Nursing page: 400 Bad Request

How do you know the application requires percentages? Only my high school transcript shows them, so I only showed the letter grades! I think regardless they would have a rough estimate at the percentage based on the letter grade.

I just assumed because the application said "73% or higher, or equivalent" so it wanted percentages but I'm applying with some letter grades so I hope that's okay!

I don't think percentages matter. If you read the page about how to prepare your PDFs it states to make sure you photocopy both sides, and on the back of most transcripts it has the breakdown each percent and what each letter grade means

Hey guys! I applied for the January 2019 intake, just wondering, does anyone know when they will be sending emails regarding the "step 2" of the application process? The wait is killling meeeeee! Especially after reading the post about the percentage of people they accept without a previous degree :(

I looked at the BCIT January 2018 intake forum on allnurses to see what dates people started seeing changes in their application status. What I have written down is September 20th: majority of people were short-listed. October 10th: final short-listed applicants. October 12-19: online quiz. October 31st: final status (accept or non-accept). I doubt these are 100% accurate but I hope it gives you a rough idea! I'm super nervous about not having a degree too.. what did you apply with?
