Hi guys,
I thought that now would be an appropriate time to start a new topic for the prospective BCIT nursing students for Jan 2014 (similar threads for previous intakes are also a great source of information).
Hopefully we can share tips, answer questions to the best of our ability, and communicate with each other about when status changes are released and whatnot. Now we can all play the waiting game together, haha!
Maybe they're waiting till the 7th to see who paid tuition and secured a seat. There's a few things they're going to send about scrubs and getting our CPR and a medical form as well but as of right now I've only received the online letters. But I just paid...and now I will eat ramen noodles and drink tap water because that killed the wallet. lol.
How/when do we register for classes?
They do it for us and everyone gets a standard timetable. You can check your courses and timetable by going to "Registration" and then "Check your schedule" or "View individual course registration details." In the past however, students have been advised to not pay attention to the online schedule as some details will change; we'll be following the schedule given to us during the first week.
I wonder when we'll be getting the textbook list?
anyone see this fee in additoin to the $3100 tuition in their account summary? What is this fee for?

That's the basic fee for our courses--$3388.19 includes all other fees like Upass, health insurance, etc. Check out this document that someone posted before, it provides a breakdown. :)

When I was at UVic we had the option to opt out of health and dental coverage if we already had coverage through our own insurance, does anyone know if BCIT offers the same option?
Yep they do. I emailed the Student Health Plan Coordinator and she told me that there are four options to opt-out. What sucks is that the opt-out period is from January 6, 2014-February 6, 2014 so we can't really do anything now, with the tuition deadline being so soon... If you pay your tuition in full and then opt-out, they'll mail you a cheque.
Do you want me to forward the info to you? If you want, you can PM me your email.

For people who are confused or lost in completing the immunization form, you need to call your local health authority for your immunization record. For example, if you live in Vancouver when you were in elementary school, then you need to contact the "Vancouver Coastal Health". Just give them a call and they will help you with it. Usually they will give you another phone # and eventually you'll find the community health clinic that is associated with the elementary school you've attended.
As for the Blood test for Hepatitis B Screen and Antibody Titre, you need to go the doctor office and they will give you a form called "Laboratory Requisition". This is the form you need to bring to the clinic for the blood test. Also, be aware that you might get charged with a service fee from the doctor office. This depends on the doctor.
As for the Chicken Pox shot (Varicella), if you never got chicken pox in your life, then you have to get the Varicella shot.
Good Luck!
