  1. Hi everyone! Congrats on those who were accepted! I am currently a level 2 student! For those of you wondering about level one schedule mine looked like this: Monday-8:30-3:30 (professional practice, communications and patho) Tues and wed- clinical can be potentially till 6-7pm if on afternoons or starting 6-7am if on morning Thurs- 8:30-2:30 (PBL and skills lab) some people also have patho seminar on thurs till 3:30 or 5pm Fri- patho seminar for one hr for those who do not have it on thurs hope this helps!!
  2. I would be honest with them and attach a letter explaining your situation and why you are more prepared to commit yourself and what strategies that will make you successful!
  3. It's a toss up. If u work as an ESN u can apply for internal job postings. However, depending on the preceptorship u choose I have heard many BCIT grads get hired from their preceptorship. Usually onto a medical or med/surg unit or other units that do not require specialty courses.
  4. I have also heard that you can work as an ESN, but then you do not get paid for your preceptorship.
  5. U get about 10K, it works out to about $18/hr
  6. Bcit takes everything into consideration my gpa was not that high but I do have some health care experience from a group home. I would suggest volunteering at the hospital or senior centers to gain health care experience even one day a wk for a few hrs :)
  7. Tons of nursing jobs! There is a place in nursing for everyone :) there is a transition happening where rn is being replaced with lpn and rn r taking on more of manager roles but depends where u wanna work
  8. And royal Colombian!
  9. They try to do placements close to where u live for level one. The hospitals are lions gate, Burnaby, eagle ridge, surrey, and langley. After level one it is random. I do not think you can switch locations unless there is a good reason. I am just finishing level one! This program is amazing you learn so much in such a short period! I can't wait to see what level 2 has to offer! :)
  10. General electives can be anything at the 200 level that's what it was for my intake aug 13
  11. As long as u can provide an application # from student loan u will b fine! :)
  12. If u have any concerns. Call bcit health services they can give u boosters if u have trouble finding your records :)
  13. For level one clinical is tues and wed so Monday night u do patient research, that can take around 3 hrs if u have to do research a care plan and med cards. I would not suggest working very much. The program is intensive and there is always something u can be doing. I took a leave from work for the first 2 months and will b starting to work one day per week. It depends on u, I know someone who did work 2-3 days per week but they have exceptional time management and organization. You need to find balance. Some people find the workload a lot and can't image working and some are able to manage one day per week.
  14. U would have to call them and ask. I heard something about bcit not doing deferrals ne more but I'm not 100% sure.
  15. I was wait listed when I first applied in jan 2013 an had to reapply to August 2013 and was accepted. It's not so bad at least u know they see potential in ur application it's a good thing! If u don't get in this time around u most likely will get in the next intake! It's a long road but worth the wait!
