Hi guys,
I thought that now would be an appropriate time to start a new topic for the prospective BCIT nursing students for Jan 2014 (similar threads for previous intakes are also a great source of information).
Hopefully we can share tips, answer questions to the best of our ability, and communicate with each other about when status changes are released and whatnot. Now we can all play the waiting game together, haha!
caroline:
log into mybcit -> student self service (on right column) -> account balance and summary (bottom of page, under fee assessment, payment and receipts) -> if you scroll down to the bottom it should say "deferral granted" if your application was approved. OR, you can just call the financial aid office and ask about the status of your application. I submitted my application last friday, and my fee deferral was approved yesterday.
Thank you! It doesn't say anything... I faxed in my deferral last Friday as well.. I applied for student loans on the 29th of Oct but it says they have received my declaration yet. I guess I'll just have to wait it out. I emailed bcit explaining my situation... I really hope I don't get charged any late fees
Hi everyone!
I just discovered this forum and wondered if anyone here could help me out. I got accepted to BCIT January intake but I need to defer because of financial reasons. I asked before I applied about deferring because of financial reasons and was told it was ok (I had a feeling my loan wouldn't come through in time). But now that it's time to defer they say I need to have medical reasons! I'm wondering if anyone has knowledge of other people being in a similar situation and being allowed to defer? Or if I apply again for September what are my chances like for getting accepted again? I feel like they will be worse because they wouldn't want to offer a seat to someone who already turned them down... :(
Any information would be super useful to me right now as the deadline for paying the deposit is tomorrow!
Thanks so much
Hi RoseElin! As long as you applied for student loan, payment defer, and the $200 deposit, it should be fine.
I think BCIT Nursing are no longer allowing people to defer their seat, accept for medical reasons. To me, I think this is fair to all future applicants. This program is very competitive. If 1/3 of the intake seats are for deferral applicants from the previous intake, then it is very hard for new applicants to compete. Also, if you are planning to reapply, the chances of getting accepted again would be 50/50. It totally depends on the pool of the applicants.

Hey RoseElin, I think you should email our admissions officer right away. Explain your situation and she might be able to extend your tuition deadline for another week or so. If she does extend the tuition deadline, then that may give you enough time to apply for a tuition deferral. However, they'll only approve your tuition deferral if you have proof of a guaranteed means of payment (i.e., your student loan comes through). Otherwise, you may need to reapply for September. Best of luck.
@boomshakelaka - Not a problem! They sent out an email to all accepted applicants, so even those who aren't on this forum should receive it too!
A general question for everyone....at this point with most of our records being in-process, we're still waiting for Reg's Office to send us more info about our Criminal Record Check right?

I'm pretty sure that's all it is.
